Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lightest, fastest 26"/559 road tire?

Just picked up a felt f75 frameset for my kids, daughter could ride it now but doesn't yet need to move up to it, son is another year out at least. Being a frameset it doesn't come with the 650c wheels; some fairly extensive searching for upgrades to her track bike revealed that 650c has really become a dead size, no good tires that I can find at all, been hoping to find conti 4000 IIs since the 5000 went to 650b with no 650c option. Rims are scarce as hens teeth and narrow. A quick check with an old 26" mtb wheelset shows that it will fit just fine but I need some faster tires. I've got some 26x1.1 folding tires that seem decent, little heavy for the size and not a performance tire, but would like a 26x1 in something lighter and faster if possible.
And from the fit of the 26 with 1.1 tire, it might not fit a 650x28c very well and I suspect a 650b wouldn't fit the frame.

I'm not familiar with any 1" 26ers aside from wheelchair parts, and they wouldn't be what you're looking for. There are some performance-oriented 28-32mm 26ers, though.

The fanciest that I'm aware of are Rene Herse Elk Pass, which reportedly tend to measure around 29mm on rims with a 20mm inner width. Those only weigh around 180g and are extremely supple, but have a quite steep price tag.

Continental Grand Prix is available in 28mm 26er with both folding and steel bead.
Panaracer Pasela comes in 26x1.25. The version with the red label lacks the puncture-protection belt, and is a surprisingly supple tire.

Quality 650c tires in 25 and 28mm ---> https://www.rodbikes.com/store/?prod...ires-and-tubes
One of the road bikes my kids have uses 650c wheels.

You need 6mm of brake pad adjustability to make 26" 559 wheels work.

I think this is the first time I've ever linked gatorskins. They ride like frozen hoses, but are 1 1/8 which is 28mm and the narrowest 26" tire ive seen.
panaracer makes a pasela in 32mm https://www.modernbike.com/panaracer...6-x-1.25-black

quality 26 x 1 tires may not exist as it defeats the point of 26" tires and rims, which has been volume and lower pressures.

The first pair of brakes I grabbed out of the parts bin, random pair of tektro from I can't remember what, landed perfectly on the rim which I found surprising; they're probably about the same quality as what came on the bike originally and might be what I use. The only catalog says, and from I remember when I was building these new as a shop mechanic, is that they're 650c, but 26" might be the way to go.
I looked at the Rodbikes, the panaracers when I last rode them seemed like a fairly dead tire, while the one 650c that looked good was only a 23mm.
It might be that the 1.1 Michelin Wild Run'r is the fastest thing I will find but I'll have to see.
