Which Cambridge?
Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Virginia, Vermont, or England?
Apologies if I've missed one..

I thought that sarcasticcrab was being clever by not showing which Cambridge in the header, so I clicked on it to see which Cambridge it was. I was guessing Massachusetts.

Let's see where this is. Not that I know where to find a vintage bike in any of the Cambridges. Too bad Randy's MyTenSpeeds website is down. One of his best advice pages is on how to find vintage bikes.

Agh, I think there is one in Ontario as well!!

In any case, if we haven't scared off the OP, I'm near Cambridge MA and have a basement of old bike frames if they want a starter project.

While we're on the subject, what's the best bike shop in Franklin?

And where can I get a beer in Fairview?

I think the OP is in the UK (we'll see if it remains the UK post Brexit) . . .

You know, the real Cambridge

I was inclined to think Cambridge MA because the reticence and intentional ambiguity is typical of Harvard-y people not really wanting to say where they're at, lest they appear hoity-toity or pretentious. Also I like making new friends, and re-homing select junk from my junkpile is always nice.

Edit: But you're right, it's the UK. It says in their profile. "Country of residence: GB."
Oh well... Brits, take it away!

Go three blocks down the street, make a left, count five green doors, then stand in the middle of the street and recite Queen's Bicycle Race twice. A messenger riding a 1984 Raleigh Competition will hand you a small envelope containing a location. Take the first bus headed north by northwest to that location, and get off at the open field where the biplane is crop dusting. Once you've been chased through the cornfield, take the hidden elevator down to the 4th sub-basement, where Jeremy from CinemaSins will ask you whether you meant Cambridge, Barbados or Cambridge, Jamaica. The correct answer is Jamaica. At this point, send a message to randyjawa, who should be in Jamaica, except he's in Canada, so you'll have to wait a month. But soon as the Cinzano team beats you over the head with a Silca pump, Randy will arrange for your transportation by shipping you a unicycle from the McGregor dump.

But seriously, just hoof it across the Charles River to nlerner's place. He has all of them.

The absolute best place to find a vintage bicycle is where they are and they are NOT inside a computer. If you want to find a bike and pay darn little for it, you has gots to go into the field. It is that simple and, I might add, fun. So, turn off the computer and...

Word of Mouth - talk to all of your friends and acquaintances, Tell them that you seek a vintage road bicycle. This works pretty good for first time hunters.

Yard Sales - go to them, cash in your pocket, and shop away. While at the yard sale, ask, loudly but not screaming, if the yard sale guy or gal has an old bicycle for sale. Many a really fine bike has come my way doing this and I do mean many.

Flyer - make up and deliver a hundred, or so, flyers then go home and wait for calls. Many a bike has come my way through this method.

Now, use your imagination and you WILL find a cool old bike. These days, if I bothered to do so, I can, pretty much find bikes on demand. This is the last one scored at the dump, in case you have a friendly dump close by (got the pump their at the same time)...
