Adding a vintage frame pump ?
I’ve not given it a lot of prior thought but tonight noticed some pictures of vintage bikes with matching frame pumps and thought they looked rather classy. Doing an eBay search I see several Silca Impero’s and I’m wondering if they would be a nice addition to a vintage bike ? Really talking more aesthetic here than planning on using it.

...Silca pumps are (and this is just my opinion) a poor choice for a frame pump for today's modern, high pressure tyres. I can pump a tyre to much higher pressures after a roadside repair using something a little more modern, like a Zefal HPX frame pump in the appropriate length. There are people who are Silca plastic pump fans here, but I am not one of them. All of mine sit in a bucket in the garage.
They do work better if you install the Campagnolo head, but still not as well as a Zefal.

Styling wins
get the Silca.
they worked, not as well as a Zefal HP or later HPx but we are a Styling first bunch here by and large.
Campagnolo steel pump head- what every rabid dog deserves to get acquainted with.

Silca for style, hands down and I have never had one not get me home, have at least a dozen, all work just fine despite some of them being 40+ years old.
I don't think I have aver seen a paint to match Zefal, hey that gives me an idea.

It's the modern, high pressure tyres that are the modern thing in my post.

while i can't compare to a silca, which definitely wins on style points, i can attest to the zefal hpx as a great pump that's fast and efficient at all pressures

...the mechanical design of an HPX has some considerable improvement that enables pumping to higher pressures more easily. I don't know if I would equate this as being "more modern", but it's definitely an improvement in terms of user friendliness. If nothing else, (and there are a few other improvements), the ability to lock out the frame pump spring when pumping makes them easier to use.

I have Silca pumps on a couple of my bikes because they are classy and will get you home or to a place where you can actually get the tires up to correct riding pressure. They work and the ones I have match the bikes they came with , every other bike gets a Zefal HP . The same pumps I used many years ago. They are/were intended for emergency like a spare tire on a car. Unfortunately bike tires aren’t as reliable as car tires!

I
have two and don't mount them anymore because they have dislodged a couple of times almost cause an accident. The other issue is the wear on the paint from contact. Mine are not painted but black. They do work and will get you home. I started carrying CO2 instead.
Pic needed.
