So many of these Bicycling! magazine reviews from this era have a San Francisco Bay Area connection because of where the magazine was based.
This article no exception.
There was in operation at this time a retail shop in Hayward California owned by Clarence Witt and called Witt's Cyclery. Clarence was also a frame builder.
He had a family relation in Italy who was involved with the Bevilaqua production and so became a dealer for the bikes, in a very small way. He never seemed to have more than four to six machines on hand at any one time.
That is likely the provenance of the machine for the review.
