Had a really good ride this morning. It was pretty windy, so I chose to go out in to the headwind, conservatively, and then back home with the tailwind, at a little more brisk pace. Somehow I ended up smashing my metric PR and finished in ~3hr 12mn (19.5mph). That's pretty bonkers to me (for me).
Also went over 4k miles on the year, which is typically my annual goal.

Ha. The ride today also featured some good ol' CAT6ing. Well, something like that.
I saw a guy ahead of me and was closing on him. He hit a red, and I ended up rolling up behind him. When the light turned green, he made a pretty obvious show of hammering away. I went back to my previous pace, more or less, and saw that, after the first 30 seconds or so out of the gate, I was closing on him again. Rather than get up on his wheel, I decided to hang back, out of his draft but still in his headspace, to see if it would goad him in to blowing up trying to stay ahead of me. He started showing signs of cracking, particularly on small inclines, so I finally rolled past casually. Not surprisingly, he jumped right on my wheel. I was generous enough to him, riding smoothly, signaling hazards, etc, until the next incline. It hurt like hell, but I sat and churned, looking as casual as I could, assuming that he would drop away. Didn't even give him the look. He did drop away, I guess, because I didn't see him when I turned off a short time later.

Prolly every day. Wife is off though Labor Day and we don't have much by way of plans. I might be able to squeeze in a longer (62mi+) ride on Sat, but will probably keep the rest shorter and have some family time.

Ha. I've ridden variations of the route before and knew that it would get me to my sandwich shop, so I stopped the ride at 62.5, picked up my lunch and then slow-rolled home (separate ride on Strava, so it happened).

Wait until I semi-retire. Plan/dream is to work 2 days/week and ride 5 days weekly. Then you will all rue.

So, I'm riding home from work in a closed lane of a 2-lane road that has "No vehicles" signs sprouting out of it. I see a buddy of mine coming the other way on the opposite side of the road. I turn around and yell at him and smack into a sign at about 12 mph. Oh my ******g God that hurt. I didn't go down, but I have bruises on my right shoulder, thigh, and hand. I don't think they're running the TT tomorrow, but I'm not sure I could do it. Jeez, I'm an idiot.

In further idiot action, I dropped the glass top of the slow cooker, smashing it to bits, so Long-Suffering Spouse ordered an Instant Pot® on Daughter's recommendation. She says she's going to start cooking a bit after she retires. We shall see...

When I was about 8 I was riding along near a school (I think), looking around and not paying attention to what was in front of me - specifically the set of bollards with a chain running in between them.
Clotheslined myself very well.

They're just little convection ovens, so they'll crisp things a little better than a conventional oven. But fryer? No.
Ha. Boneheadedness happens to the best of us - glad it wasn't worse. More importantly, how embarrassing was it for that to go down in front of your buddy?

I wonder if she'd be as understanding about a new BB and crankset?

Just finished a lab meeting where I think I was pretty unpleasant due the amount of pain I was in. I decided not to make excuses, but I'll have to apologize to people later.
