I have heard that story before and I think something similar happened to my own father, but he was pretty rough already.

How often do you guys beat up RD hangers? Shop called and said mine was bent. I suppose that could be from the topple on Thursday, but man, it seems like mine is bent any time anyone looks at it.

9%Learned to ski at the AZ Snowbowl. Loved the Verde River/Valley, Oak Creek Canyon, Superstitions. Always amazed on 17 heading north popping up onto the plateau and on into Flagstaff with all the pine trees. Beautiful country, lots of good memories...but glad to be in the Bay Area.

Hammering on them or bending them back does increase the chance of complete hanger failure, but I like living on the edge.

True, that. But then I learned a long time ago that getting out and riding at sunrise is usually quiet (occasionally there's a bit of a breeze), fresh, cool air, and minimal traffic (and idiot drivers on the road...increases the odds of survival on a ride . Breezes usually don't start until early afternoon.

One depressing thing as I get older is thinking about the increasing number of events I don't remember. Like, last week the family was reminiscing about my sister's graduation at a boarding school hundreds of miles away. I drove out there with a friend, the only time he was ever there. You'd think an unusual weekend like that would stick out in my memory, but I barely remember any of it.

Those storms were rolling through like on a freight train. Temp went from 92º to 69º in a few minutes, blew the Hell out of everything, and scooted on across the state. A friend lost soffit and a tree. I just had to run around and get my patio furniture out of the neighbor's yard. 
But really, I think we lucked out. Nasty images from not too far away.

If you're bending it on a road bike and not banging it into anything maybe you could have someone make one for you out of a stronger metal.It's one of the few things I haven't had trouble with. I was in the mountains with some people I didn't really know and a lady bent hers somehow and I encouraged her friend to bend it back and it snapped off. Oops.
