Mounting panniers on new rack

I just installed my new ibera bike rack on my bike. I'm also going to get some grocery panniers but right now I want to use my old sun panniers that hook over the sides of the rack, then hook on the bottom hooks.

Only thing is this rack doesn't have bottom hooks. What is the best way to secure my panniers?

Is this something I need to keep in mind when shopping for new grocery panniers? I love the rack, I got the long brackets so my rack is nice and level, it has the added tubing to keep things from going into my wheels. But I want to use my cheap panniers and I want my new panniers to be easily removable so I can take them into the store.

Here is a pic, it might be hard to see but I'm sure others have the same thing.

Bend up a hook for yourself or get otherwise creative.

My temporary solution

Is to loop the bungee around the rack tubing then attach the hook to on of the plastic tabs on the pannier. Not quite as quick but seems secure. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go to the store.

Yeah, I figured I could add something, I just don't understand why so many racks don't come with a spot already.

I once used a loop of heavy clothes hanger wire between the braze on bolt and the seat stay. The bike is long gone, so no photos. I always keep bits of old wire and angle iron for projects like this.

Pannier design has changed.
Most today have hooks that can be closed and secured. That way, they don’t need that downwards pull to stay put. Instead they’ll have a tab that can be slid in behind one of the stays to prevent the pannier to swing out.

Ibera sells very nice panniers & bags that clip into the racks easily. Their prices are reasonable and they work well.

Turning out to be a non issue

I looped the cord around the rack and hooked it to itself, it works quite well.

If in the future I need an attachment point I'll probably use metal strapping or a small hose clamp.

I am looking hard at the ibera commuter trunk bag, seems only common sense to take advantage of the design. I have a topeak one for my topeak rack.
