Greeting from Sunny Minnesota

Hello All,

Recently joined the forum for information on gear and to get answers to random questions.
I am a newbie to riding, this is my first year.
I ride a Giant Cadex 980C. No upgrades to it, everything original.
Riding about 100 miles a week, nowadays indoors on a trainer.
Prepping for a ride from Tampa, FL to the Keys (450-500miles). I'll be riding with my 72 year old Dad who has completed two 1000 mile plus rides (If you google "riding a bike from orange tx to lakeville mn" you will get to see his first long ride). BTW - IF anybody knows of a good path/route to take for this ride, I'm all ears.
As a reward for completing the ride, I'm going shopping for a new ride, any suggestions for a bike in the $2000 range would be greatly appreciated. I'm 6'5" 210lbs.
BOOMERSOONER!!
