Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have to look around to see if I can find something like that.

Hard ride yesterday. I felt great until I didn’t, about 55 miles into 80. I got severe cramps in both legs and had to drop my work effort way back. Another rider was bonking at the same time, so we sent the rest of the group ahead and limped back at a much reduced pace.

It was still a good ride.

A bar tape thread in the 41 reminds me of the original tape on my Propel, not the tape, but the taping job. When it was worn and I was replacing it, I marveled at the finishing job. It was obviously done by hand and perfect which I found amazing considering it’s a Giant, albeit a higher end one. The tape had been trimmed and shivved thin at the finishing end.

I could imagine some little old lady at Giant whose only job was taping carbon bars.

Slept like **** last night, so I started to down some espresso before prepping/packing for the century ride with my friend... And right after getting that first cup in to me, my buddy let's me know that's he's going to have to reschedule. Shoulda told me that before I got the jet fuel pumping so that I could get back to sleep.

My friend and I would listen to that first record over and over back in the day. I finally got around to seeing them in the late '90s. They played some "secret" show for which you could only gain admittance with a fat stack of Marlboro Miles. It only took a couple of weeks of tearing miles off of peoples Marlboro packs to get our tickets. The best part being that they booked it in a tiny punk club with approx 200 capacity.

Solo century!

I'm up for no good reason. Guess I should get dressed to ride so I can roll out as soon as the sun rises.

only 83°, much better than the approx 90° sunrise weather we've had enough of.

No Sunday morning ride for me. We are taking daughter 1 back to college. It will be an epic 15 minute drive to West Chester University.

And her granddaughter wraps bars on the entry-level Giants.

Wow, the time gap between yesterday's last post and today's first post is humongous. Major league slacking.

I'll hook up with the club ride this morning, so 100 to ~50. I'm okay with that.

Trader Joe’s discontinued their chocolate hemp protein, which is my favorite supplement in a cup of reduced fat milk post ride. Had to make do with vanilla hemp protein this morning. At least it’s only a mild taste.

I retire from my first career in 10 months. So I've made the decision to completely change directions and get into IT. I got my first cert a week ago, MTA 98 349, and now I'm really having fun studying for the CompTIA and 98 366. Learning about cables today. I wonder if there is a cable kit I could get that I can practice stripping and putting those different little ends on?

I also quit drinking coffee. I switched to tea, and I'm down to just two bags of tea a day now. Last couple weeks were rough, but I'm sleeping a little better. My functionality was becoming too dependent on the nespresso machine.

I quizzed Ivan yesterday and he passed. He was able to show me where his belly button and feet were.

Sorry. I was tired last night. Plus, if I let you know how I REALLY feel, the whole operation could get shut down for a few days. I am trying to be on my best behavior and hoping the authorities notice.

Sounds like you need somewhere to blow off steam. I hear FB or Twitter are popular venues. Or you don't have to leave home at all, you can try our very own Trollheim, I won't think any less of you, and screw those who do.

BITD I was IT, so I'm interested in what you're talking about. What's the MTA thing? What's the TIA thing? What cable kit(s)?
