Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's March in Central New York. Nobody goes to the bike shop.

Why are you there, then?

BTW, I think I ordered my bike in March. It was not in Central New York.

Exactly.

Today at work I learned our ordering people tried to put in our regular ol order for surgical gowns and masks. Backordered and we will run out in a week at our normal rate of doing surgery (which may well slow down of course).

So we’re exploring going old school with cloth (rather than disposable) masks and gowns. Lol the head surgical nurse told me none of the pack room kids know how to fold and wrap these items, they’re going to have to be retrained.

I remember prepping those gowns. Kinda relaxing, really.

For tomorrow's group ride, I am going to tell everyone that they should refrain from shooting snot rockets, and if they MUST do so, they must go off the back. We will be venturing into lovely Lancaster County.

Our local convenience store chain just banned bringing your own coffee mug in due to the Coronavirus. The cashier was telling me this as she was handing me change from my $10 bill. I asked her why they hadn’t banned cash. Blank stare.

Rumor has it we may actually get some testing kits for COVID-19 as soon as today. I am still not holding my breath.

Bringing your own mug to the store seems inconvenient.

It's in the low 50s now. By this afternoon the sun is supposed to be out, and it's supposed to get to 70, but with strong winds.

51.5° on the back porch right now, so shorts weather. Dunno about the afternoon, though...

Don't think I mentioned this yesterday, but I made my regular Whole Foods stop on the way home from my NJ office. Got there around 3:30. The parking garage is usually relatively quiet at that house. This time it was nuts. By the luck of the draw I found a space, but I was thinking "Oh boy."

Went upstairs into the store and it was a madhouse. Decided to wander around. Shelves with things like canned tuna, pasta, soup and canned beans and vegetables were stripped nearly bare. No paper products to be had. Even the olive oil selection was nearly limited to the really expensive stuff.

A guy I know reported that he stopped in around 7:30. Every line was open, but the cues stretched to the back of the store. I was surprised that there was anything left to buy.
