If you use a 7 speed freewheel you'll have to use the friction mode as your 6 speed will Not click 7 speed.
Also if you use a vintage shimano 7 speed freewheel you'll have no problems, however, if you use a new shimano 7 speed freewheel with the rivets on the back of the Low sprocket you will likely need a spacer in order for the small sprocket to clear the frame.
Lastly if you decide to go 7 speed SiS click shifting, you can go 105, 600, or Dura Ace 7 speed shifters and it will work just fine with that 105 rear derailleur.

Well I rode my '88 Carbon Ironman today but Only 18 miles. Last week I rode my Miami Vice 17 fun filled miles. Maybe my next ride I'll finally make 20 miles.
The ride was good even with the narrow width 20 hard as rock tires. I think the sexy flexy forks and carbon frame softened the Ride to the point where it was like riding steel. I stated my MV has a 7 speed 13-28 freewheel but it's actually a 13-26. Now, the '88 Carbon Ironman Does have a 12-28 8 speed cassette. I think I prefer the 26 for my type of riding.
Although I enjoyed the ride today it was a little cool with temp 70 and a bit cloudy. Wouldn't you know it, i was 5 miles from home when the sun came out and I felt pretty good as my ride ended.

How to mechanic headset bearing service continued.
Reinsert the stem/handlebar assembly into the headset/tube. Hand tighten the top bearing cup until it snugs up and you feel resistance. Check that the fork is not loose, but moves freely. Similar to the BB bearings you want the magic point with some bearing load. Not loose, but moving freely. When you find it, tighten the lock ring down while holding the upper cup steady. This is tricky because the tool for the cup has to be thin. I am using a big pair of vice grip needle nose pliers with thin fingers.

Retirement day gifts
My retirement party at Lockheed was canceled due to the virus but I was told to come in to pick up my stuff turn in my badges and process out. The powers to be said NO PARTY! When I got there everyone gathered up in a socially acceptable group to say good bye. They had some things they had gone together and bought for me. I mentioned a while back that the stores were sold out of Spam due to the hoarding. Well they took care of that.
Ironman content...I'm going to wear that Spam jersey when I ride my Ironman tomorrow. We aren't allowed to take pictures in the plant so I spread my goodies out on my hood and took one at home.

You commuted between Bowie and Lockheed? Yikes. That wasn't bad up until about 10-15 years ago when 287 turned into a giant parking lot. Remember when you could drive 287 and see maybe one car every 15 minutes? Now it's 15 cars in a space for 5.

Yep I had over 20 years in and often worked 6 and sometimes 7 days a week. 140 mile round trip from my house. I worked on the F-16 F-22 & F-35. It was a good job but now its time to do some things with my family. All those trips and I was in one wreck. It wasn't serious and no one was hurt.
Back then I tried bicycle commuting but it turned out to be a death wish. Drivers were much more hostile then toward cyclists. It's not too bad now compared with back then.

Two timin, that's great. Makes it more interesting. I did a triathlon once and had the worst bike ride of my life. The next day did another triathlon and had the best ride. So don't discount it.

My 5k PR is the second race of two I did that weekend, so I’m not going to say I’ll do poorly at all. But the venue is over 2 hours away and hailing there for 6:30am check-in two days in a row is another issue. Husband is suggesting that I just go down and stay for the weekend...by myself. Woohoo! Although, I’d miss my Sherpa. He hauled my bike through the wooded trails for me before and after the race last time.

I've had running/cycling events cancelled/postponed in March, April and May so far. Don't know about June yet. Marathon Training Team is supposed to start at the end of May. I'm guessing the first weeks/month of that will be virtual/solo also. On the positive side, I'm saving some coin. And.....I got the email this morning that I got picked in the lottery for the MCM. For all of the Jarheads/other armed forces and people that want to pay tribute, this is a special anniversary year. They are doing it up bigger than usual. The medals are going to have actual volcanic ash/black sand in them. Oorah!

The '56 Belair...
You good folks seem to appreciate my old hot rod. Here is the background on it. My Dad stumbled on it from a lady who got it in a divorce and offered her $2000. She laughed at him but then a few days later showed up at his house beating on his door and demanded her money. He paid her got the car and called me. He had no idea what to do with it. He was a Ford guy and wasn't into hotrods. I had a 66 & a 67 Dodge Charger. I sold the 66 and bought the Chevy from him. It had a 327 with a turbo 350 transmission in it so it was a long ways from original when we got it. I built a s/b 400 and added a 9"Ford rear end and we drove it for several years and ran it at Super Chevy events at the Texas Motorplex. Its a 12:50 1/4 mile car with street tires. It has sat in the driveway since about 2012 with the starter & battery out. No telling what else it needs now. Since I now have more time its on my list of things to do. My wife & boys love that old car so its not going anywhere unless I want to be divorced and disowned.

This is my wife's goofing off bike. Tange infinity tubing Nice ride. I'm putting a 110/74 crank on it with a 50/34, then servicing the bike. I have another mixte for my daughter. I'm trying to get a bike ready for everyone today. My son is about a 1/2" taller than me, but longer legs/shorter arms. Working on the wife's 52cm Team Miyata for him. If it's too small, he will go on one of my 54s.
