I BELONG![/QUOTE]
You might observe that my lawn here is mainly salty sand with some thorny sprigs. I think your tenure on the forum depends on horticultural improvement, this week. We're watching. Not optimistically.

I live in an apartment complex. The lawn crew that comes in on Wednesdays will mulch Doohickie with their riding mowers and scatter him with their leaf blowers, problem solved.

Well, there goes the neighborhood.
Yep. It's the same virus. You are never cured from Chicken Pox, the virus just goes dormant then can reappear as shingles especially if your immune system is suppressed.
My dad had shingles when he was already in significant pain from multiple myeloma.
I didn't know there is anything you can do to prevent episodes, so I learned something today.

But, one thing that most people don't understand: the pain of shingles comes from the virus attacking the peripheral nervous system. And the attack can, and often does, do permanent damage leaving disability and ongoing pain...
So, yep, get the vaccine...
... (I think the recommendation is 60 or 62 or something... But, I'm not convinced shingles will card you...)

Shingles sucks. If you had chicken pox, you have the virus for shingles already in your body. It doesn't go away, can't be killed, it just sometimes forgets to stay asleep and causes you untold pain. I'm not sure how the "vaccine" (in quotes because it seems to be more of a suppressant than a killer") works.

There is a theory that once you have shingles your body develops an immunity to them. My theory is: they hurt so bad your body says "ain't doing THAT agin..." I've had shingles (when in my 30's) -- but I don't intend to take a chance. I'm getting the vaccine. There is also a question of how long the vaccine lasts: Is it 5 years or is it a lifetime? I'm not sure anybody knows the answer to that...

Young people less than 60 might have to pay out-of-pocket depending on insurance plan. Cost is in the $200 range.
Got mine this year at 62.
