Thanks. I recently had the old French threaded bottom bracket rebuilt and all the bearings repacked in the hubs and headset as well. I asked them while the shop had it apart to replace the cables, and they replaced the corroded and rusted original cable guides on the top tube with these Shimano side frame guides. The bike has been in my family since purchased new in 1976, and it rides beautifully.

Also, I don't like doing finishing projects. They're tedious, and I'm never satisfied. I painted the frame of my International, and it took a long time, and the result isn't so good. I won't unveil my idea for refinishing this bike until and unless it's done. It's a bit unusual.
Your 'ugly' bike is pretty cool! I remember a local rider would get a new racing frame, like a nice Cinelli, Masi or whatnot, then rattle spray paint it and the components in the most hideous way so that you didn't know what it was unless doing a close inspection. He said he never had his bikes stolen when 'prepped' this way! He would ride them to school, work store, etc. and not secure it while away.

I recently rebuilt an early 70s Fuji Finest. It originally came with those Shimano side cable guides. If you look at the first first two pics, you'll see them. They're pretty rare.

Early 70s Fuji Finest

I just rebuilt an early 70s (likely a '70-71) Fuji Finest. I built it up with a triple (SR Apex 86 bcd crank with 48/38/28 rings) because I plan on taking it to Wisconsin soon to ride some hills (and they have some serious hills there,

I rode the bike around 80 miles over the Labor Day weekend. I'd forgotten how nicely a cyclone rear derailleur shifts on a new winner freewheel and how good suntour barcons are. The bike is just fun to ride.

I built the bike up old school with cloth tape, leather saddle, toe clips and straps. The old ways may not be as good as some of the new but they still work well.

Looks nice! What tubing is it made of? Did they have Tange back then?

I don't know when Tange (or Ishiwata) got started. The tubing is double butted seamless chrome moly but that's all I know. The frame is completely chromed underneath the paint.

It looks like the chrome moly tubing set Fuji used (usually marked 331) was proprietary:

I need to track down one of these stickers for my bike:

What's the little red sticker on the fork blade just below the crown?

Not a tubing sticker. Just says F (short for Fuji) Racing.

I'm not trying to lecture and mean this in all charity...

That front brake hose needs to be secured out of the way.
