Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't feel that great at the moment but the weather is so beautiful that I just have to ride. Going to take my wife out for a coffee stop ride. Despite all of her broken bones and issues, she's up to 1400 miles, 95% of it on a trike. Tandem riding is just too hard on her and her single bike hasn't been ridden since 9/19/18. She'd rather ride upright but when life gives you lemons, you ride whatever you can.

In an impulsive moment, I bought a used Power2Max FSA crankset cheap. It came yesterday and realized that it's a 10 speed setup as in marked "10 Speed Only." Luckily, I've been told that P2M is very helpful, support-wise, so I'm going to contact them as I only have 11 speed on my bikes, even my trike.

I'm really bad about reading the fine print in "for sale" ads.

I can't see how it would be a problem. The large/small rings on the most recent gen Shimano cranks are slightly further apart, but that change came well after 11-sp and shouldn't be a problem. Chainring thickness didn't change between 10 and 11-speed, did it? Even if, plenty of people run 11-sp with cranksets made for 10-sp. Regardless, other than a few new, odd-ball spiders made for the new Campy/Shimano chainrings, all of the other P2M spiders that I've seen, take your standard 110/130mm 5-bolt chainrings. If nothing else, buy some new Praxis rings or some old Shimanos (which is what I did, so I'm technically running 10-sp rings on my 11-sp drivetrain).

Yes, after I posted, I consulted Leonard Zinn’s writings and it appears it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m certainly going to try it.

I have t delved into it too deeply, but it seems that this FSA crankset uses a proprietary small ring.

Welcome back, post food and puppy pictures. The quality around here is very low. I blame @Velo Vol

Sorry you're fat and out of shape but if it is any consolation that describes most of us. The ones that aren't fat and out of shape are old and weak.

Had a nice, mostly leisurely ride today, but tossed in a couple short, punchy climbs just because. I hadn't ridden one of them in a while, and I set a PR without burying myself - it was a little under 500w for a 1min 13sec. Losing weight certainly seems to help on 10%+ grades.

....and then I see the KOM, a local pro. Jeezuz H - 33 freaking seconds. That kind of stuff blows my mind.

This obviously seems fake, but it is oh so trippy. You cannot watch it only once.

Creepy. I took acid once (and then I took it a bunch more times) and I never saw anything like that. That looks more like the effects of flat out delirium.

From the ride today - it's applied; would be much cooler if painted.

We had a fantastic midweek ride. The group was a little large at 15 riders but everyone behaved and the sun shone brightly on us.

Quite a bit of cycling (even some singlespeed gravel grinding!) in the Finnish flick "Heavy Trip" Must see TV if you've got Amazon Prime. Hilarious, and rather light-hearted for Scandinavian cinema.

I'll go watch this now.

My late and unlamented cousin Milo, one of the biggest and least redeemed *******s ever to tread the fens and fairways of Westchester County, drove only Citroens and even owned a dealership for a while. If the merits didn’t do it for me, that association alone would be enough to put me off them.

I've owned a few cars with bad reputations, in the past. Never had serious trouble with any of them.
