Hi everyone,
I recently got a Bob Yak trailer, mainly for the purpose of hauling groceries. Previous bike-only solutions were too limited in weight and volume capacity. Now, Ontario winter with lots of salt, slush and snow isn't too far away anymore.
The trailer is made out of steel which is not a material that is very winter-loving. I gave my best to touch up the scratches it had.
So, 2 questions:

1. Has anyone experience with this trailer in winter & how it survived the corrosion season?
2. Any ideas what could be done to make it more corrosion-resistant?

On that second question, a few thoughts:
The paint is good, the wheel seems to be made out of aluminum and stainless steel spokes. Are the cartridge bearings plain steel, nickel-plates, etc.? Can I do something about it?
The frame has small drainage holes. I suspect, they will let some salt-water into the frame = not good. But is it actually a good idea to cover these holes up? If anything gets into the frame, it'll stay there for much longer.
Any experience with the main pivot bushing? Any experience with the floor welds? It seems to me that these are places for plenty of small scratches where rust would be quite destructive. I'm thinking of putting a plastic floor underneath for winter.

Let me know your thoughts and ideas, please.

I'm on the west coast, Not The Frozen North..

I had one , the hub on the rear wheel was nothing special ..
Maybe get another 28 hole front hub*, and a 349 Brompton sized rim, lace it up.
you can find 349 schwalbe studded tires, for Bromptons..

IDK about the 305 rims which, I think, they use... I sold mine, years ago..

*(Trailer is a typical 10 cm wide , the folding bike hub is a 7.4 cm wide)

Before or At the end of the season get it fully powder coated ..
especially if they salt the roads.. standard BoB paint, also, is nothing special ..


holes are vent holes , lets the hot air out during welding..

Pour in Boiled linseed oil and coat it inside, if you want
after powder coating ..
Fill the holes with some sheet metal screws.

Is closing all holes a good idea, if I don't coat the inside?

I'm not sure, if I will be able to do a proper inside coating, there's no headtube, BB or seattube that gives me a good large access, so all I have are ~2-3mm drainage holes. Also, I've never heard of using linseed oil for this use. Will that be permanent?
