Anyone running heat molded shoes? Wide feet.
Hey,
I've been trying to go clipless for over a year but cannot get shoes that fit. I have a flat wide foot and seem to be stuck between two sizes. 42.5 and 43, issue being the 42.5 fits the heel great but seem to stub my big toe on the end of the shoe but 43 has a noticeable amount of heel slip. Most companies suggest i buy a 42.5 with moldable heels and it should recess my foot back enough for the toes to clear. However once molded nobody wants to accept a return so i've not tried it but am now considering. So has anyone found themselves in a similar spot ? I'm wondering how much of a difference the heel mold made?

I have heat-moldable Shimano mountain bike shoes, but I have yet to do anything, because they fit fine out of the box.
I think the best you could hope for is that heat molding will fine-tune the fit. It won't allow overall stretching.
Shimano, Sidi and Lake all make wide versions of their shoes, FWIW.

I've tried them all, sidi, lake, bont, shimano etc. Seem to be stuck between sizes on every brand i was hoping one would run a little big so the 42.5 would fit but i've not had luck.

My current favorite are SHIMANO 2016 Men's Pro XC Custom Fit Mountain Bike Shoes - SH-XC90L, size 46.5. They are heat-moldable. The heal has built-in velcro-like stuff also.
I got them discounted, $180, on Amazon. I think they listed at $400 when they first came out.

I do. Shimano R260 which is a great general purpose cycling (not walking) shoe.
This way I can take a tight shoe and make it more comfortable.
I typically go sock-less, it works well.
If you are a walker, I don't see the point. You need a looser shoe.

Ever try one with laces? I was having issues with newer shoes for 10+ years until I went back old school. Laces on good shoes are infinitely adjustable.

i promised to update- i really like the shoe for the price point. i would also say after trying something around 30 pair of shoes the bonts do seem to run a smidge small. 42.5 was extremly tight, just no way it was happening. 43 felt great in the toe like all others but the heel play was a fraction of what i got from most other brands.
Now there is one issue, the carbon sole rides very high compared to other brands. below is a link to a photo but my foot is so wide its sitting on top of the sole. its super painful and no way i could use it. i will actually go SPD pedals so its looking like i need to return these for the MTB two hole cleat option. For the sub $200 price im willing to experiment so ill bake the new pair and see if that sole squishes out enough. im worried it won’t but so far this is the best fit i’ve found. for reference that crease is where the sole ends and you can see my foot trying to hang over
