A Vogel hit today in Albuquerque
The Vogels are the family riding from AK to the southern most tip of South America. nancy_sv posts here often.
This afternoon her husband was hit while crossing through a crosswalk. Better news is he made it back to where they were staying. But, he's getting more sore by the minute, and it looks like a trip to the doc will be necessary after all. They are likely on their way to the hospital now, or soon.
The insurance company of the car that hit them won't deal with this until Monday.
They don't have a cell phone, need to find a place to sleep for a few days. The bike is also damaged. They they think that the insurance company should pay for the bike, the hospital, the hotel, etc., but I warned her that what should happen and what will happen aren't necessarily the same.
If you are in Albuquerque and can help, I suggest sending a PM to nancy_sv or going to their website to see if you can contact them via the website. Whether it be recommendations for a cheap/safe place for them to stay (2 adults, 2 kids, touring gear, bikes), food, legal advice, etc.
Don't contact me; I don't have any way of contacting them, except through Bike Forums.
Moderators, forgive me, but I am going to cross-post this in the regional section.

Thanks for posting this Flower! We are doing OK - although a bit shaken. We're trying to remember that it is all STUFF!! John and Daryl are both OK, although John is limping rather badly - I'm hoping to get him to go to the hospital tomorrow. The bike is back at the bike shop they had just left - the paramedics picked it, put it in the ambulance, and brought it back to the bike store after the accident. John has no idea how bad it is.
So for now, we're OK. We're staying with a friend, although we can't stay here more than another day or two - we'll figure something out tomorrow.

On my bike trip cross country in 2007 was hit by a car in Texas - took months to settle with the insurance company even though I did not retain an attorney. Retrospectively I should of hired one. The settlement paid for the trip and medical bills and a little extra. I took off two weeks from the bike then finished the trip. You probably know this don;t sign anything - it my take weeks to figure out how banged up you are. Mike

I forgot take pictures of everything - bruises the bike etc. If you need to go to court you'll need them as proof of injuries and damages.

Very sorry to hear this. Hope everything turns out ok. I hope he does go to the hospital to get checked out. If there ends up being a dispute with the insurance company it will be important that he has been to the doctor (if only to have it on record) especially if something turns up in a few days.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone! The good news is that John feels much better this morning - his leg is fine and his wrist is just a tad sore. I'm sure he'll be fine a few days.
The bike? We don't know yet. We'll call the bike store in an hour or so and see what they say. If the frame is damaged, we'll be out of commission for a l-o-n-g time!

thanks everyone! John is (finally) off to the doc to get checked. He's got some aches and pains, but nothing major - so we know nothing is broken. Just decided it was better to be safe than sorry at this point. We still know nothing about the bike - hopefully later today!

Let us know about the bike - a number of us have deep part bins. A triplet frame is a little tougher though maybe one of the tandem dealers may be able to assit. There's a couple small tandem builders though in Arizona who maybe to repair a frame if it's steel. But the important thing is that no one got hurt. Let us know.

Thanks! The bike store was closed today and tomorrow, so we won't have any idea of the extent of the damage until Tuesday. Bummer!!

So sorry to hear about this!
I am just north of Albuquerque in Rio Rancho. Please PM me on here if there is anything I can do to help. I have a bunch of bike parts, but nothing that is tandem-specific. If you need food, a ride, etc., PM me on here and I will get you my contact info.

Update...just heard from Nancy, the driver was uninsured. Unfortunately in this state it seems like 90% of the drivers out there don't have insurance.

Another update... That might not be true after all. I'm very confused. John talked with the adjuster for an hour today and she recorded his "statement". I don't think she would do that if he wasn't insured. We still don't know anything, but at least we're moving in the right direction.
And - Chuckie let us borrow his car for a few days. He's a true saint!!

Good news!! The driver was insured after all - we don't know why Allstate told us he wasn't. They've offered to pay for all bike repairs and medical bills.
And - the bike's OK!!!! The frame was untouched and only the handlebars and bottom bracket need to be replaced. We're doing the happy dance!!!
The bad news is that they don't have the right width handlebar in stock, so we'll have to have it shipped in. But we can live iwth that.
Life is good.
