So should 8 minutes be approximal to 20 minutes? Carmichael bases his time crunched workouts on 8 minute max effort and claims it's close enough to a 20 minute effort. My 8 minute and 20 minute efforts are about 40 watts apart right now.

I know. That's why I'm curious. I haven't formally tested my 20 minute power in a while but my MMP for 8 or 9 minutes blew out my previous best on a climb last week. I'm curious how much lower, percentage wise, my 20 minute mark should be. I want to do the 20 minute test soon, but I don't want to blow up early or leave anything on the table. Basically I held 280 for ten minutes and then dropped to 240 at 20 this season. I'm thinking gun for 260 and then build in the last 5 minutes to 270 if I can.

A few thoughts:
I just got done with a five minute test. I can do a nice number for 5 minutes. That dips if I'm trying for 8. I was not going to 8. It was all I could do to get to 5. It would logically dip several more times between 10, 15, 20. To think otherwise would indicate one hasn't spent much time using their human body.
I've been doing the online social networking thing since 1994. I've admined, started communities, been a moderator. Granted many of those were intentional communities formed around meditation and dialogue. Certain patterns still exist that I won't belabor. I trust you can all see how within a container certain personality traits are amplified when qualities like anonymity or heavy time usage are added to the mixture. Real relationships can be formed. I met my wife on facebook. Ours is not a flesh-and-blood-only world any more. BF has many strange age and interest level crossovers. For many posting itself is the name of the game, and for others it's only about creating drama. If it ceases to be fun one should leave. As someone posted; nothing lasts forever. I've seem many communities come and go. For the most part that becomes based on the skill level of the moderators to keep their egos and divisive forces in check. I personally supported the moderators in banning umd. He was heading that way for a very long time. If there's a chance for him to come back his wife is doing him no service and is virtually insuring he never gets reinstated. More importantly events like that become triggers. People beat their chest. Maybe some get annoyed and leave. Maybe some more act out and get banned. In the end in doesn't accomplish much. I wrote a PM to a mod today about the TH forum. In short; the idea that cursing at one another and saying what ever you want having a role in society or within a forum is idiotic. kuf et al mixing it up in there with guys who only want to get a reaction is sheer idiocy. That beefs will be brought their so folks can yank their ten cent sweat words out of the closet, or that beefs that will inevitably form there will by default spill out onto the board seems ridiculously self evident. One may have a choice to participate or not, that's true. But a lack of decorum and civility pollutes everything. That there was a 47 page thread on being kinder to women and then the same mods and admins can start a forum where people can call one another t w a t s is so far beyond dumb it defies the formation of adequate phrasing. None of it is particularly surprising, of course. So of course EDR will quit the board because some twenty something year old gets under his skin. And of course botto will get pear shaped every time 18 year old mikey thinks he knows something about the world. These things happen in real life too. Folks come and go. We intermingle with those we like. Sometimes we're stuck in situations with folks (work, often) we can't stand. For the most part social norms dictate that we act with some element of decorum. When we don't there tend to be social or work related repercussions. Reap what you sow. Here you get banned, or shunned, or maybe you pee on the enjoyment of others or they even leave.
So, behave yourselves. Shut the eff up about umd and maybe he'll be allowed back when things settle down. Tell his wife (or him if that's who is posting) nicely to shut up. If someone gets under your skin move on to something else for a while. With very few exceptions most of you could be faster, train harder, or be thinner. With few exceptions here, my five number is better than yours. Aspire to something more than pcad's post count.
And JFC you don't need to waste a moderators time with a ban to not post. Grow up.

The whole asking for a self-ban thing perplexes me as well. Do people really lack the self-restraint to not actively do something they don't want to do?

as I said before, "/serious" means I am done with that topic.
on the other one:
I just looked up 2010:
5' = 5.3 w/kg
8' = 4.9 w/kg
10' = 4.9 w/kg
20' = 4.2 w/kg
60' = 4.0 w/kg
I don't think the Carmichael thing works for me, but the 20'*.95 does.

Irrc he uses 8' x 0.90 or something like that instead of 20' x 0.95.

I got food poisoning too last day of our trip to Disney World two years ago. Same thing, didn't know which way to face the toilet a couple times.

Keep in mind that the moderators *really* wanted to move this thread to foo when it was started two years ago. It was sold as *road racer lifestyle thread*; that in having our own place to socialize and talk about the myriad other aspects of our lives that effect our racing, we were supporting one another in a sport that wasn't just about racing and training.
