1951 Maino

For my 8 regular readers, in case you missed it, I finished the bike. All started here - https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...nda-parte.html

Well, 99% complete. In the mail today I got one of those Campagnolo shims for downtube shifter clamps. I'm told it will prevent the shifters from slipping. I took the bike for a ride and wound up on small small by the time I got home. No biggy, but I prefer the bike to properly shift.

1951 Maino is and Italian brand out of Alessandria. They were a big deal prior to WW2 as they sponsored a team with Learco Guerra, aka, The Locomotive. He won the Giro I think 3 times amongst other palmares. After WW2 they started to fizzle. I think gone by the 60s, maybe the 70s? Never exported outside Italy as best as can tell.

This particular frame was a pos that needed repair and new paint. It has the first generation Campagnolo Gran Sport rear dropouts with the stop at 4 o'clock. Too small for me, but I didn't want it to end up in a dumpster. Took a long while and expense to find the right bits and bobs, but they are there. Fabulous! Your dedication to detail in all your builds is inspirational.

Don't tell anyone, but the Campagnolo shifter shim thingy has a closed "C" and not an open "C". 5 lashes with a wet noodle for me.

Not a clue. This project was more of going down the component rabbit hole and not the frame rabbit hole.

jab, I aspire to achieve the kind of results that you do. Well done! And, I really like the color that adds so well to the antiquated or vintage look.

Thank you Randy. My inspiration comes from an original Maino I regret not buying.

I really need to find a French equivalent to one of those markets, and plan my vacation around that.

Beautiful build around that one.
