Mountain bike tyres

Afternoon guys,

After a bit of advice please, currently got a Saracen hazzard 7005 aluminium mountain bike. Tyres are ready to be replaced they are currently downhill tyres 26x2.35. Is it possible to swap these out for 27.5 inch tyres without the need for changing the rim or will the rim need replacing aswell.

many thanks.

No you cannot put 27.5 tires on 26 rims. Some 26 forks will accommodate 27.5x2.3 tires , some will not. Same with frames, although fewer 26" wheel frames will accept 27.5x2.3 than forks, I'd imagine.

What exactly is your goal?

After searching for tyres I’m struggling to find somewhere with stock in for the tyres I currently have which from reading up are downhill tyres. There is enough space for 27.5 tyres both front and back as front suspension is long travel but just wondered if it was a case of replacing the rim aswell. Thanks for your advice think I’ll just keep looking and hope to find some decent 26x2.35’s with available stock didn’t fancy changing rims lol. Already replaced shifters, brakes, cables and housing lol.

Chain Reaction Cycles has plenty of 26er options. DH, trail, XC, gravel, even road slick options.

Width is less critical than wheel diameter. You should be able to fit tyres from 1.75" to 2.5" on your rims. Wider ones might run on your frame. Wider ones might also roll off your rims if your rims are narrow. Narrower tyres might be more likely to snake bite if you're running tubes.

Read the ETRTO* numbers # 1) is the tire bead seat diameter, where the tire bead meets the rim. you have to buy tires that fit your rim.

a 26 x 1.75" is 47-559. 559 is the bead seat diameter number.. * an International standard to have tires fit rims from many countries ..
