Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's high summer here - right now, it's about 58 degrees with 10-20 mph winds from the West and everything's getting crunchy underfoot, getting ready for fall, when it will be 90-100 and on fire.

My dad loved cabbage in all kinds of dishes. My mother made it for him quite often. Stuffed cabbage rolls, cole slaw, and all manner of German dishes. I love it too. Mrs. John uses it in a stir fry and it's yummy.

Must be time to service the winter commuter. Or at least pump up the tyres. It felt like trying to ride through treacle this morning.

Right now the plan here is to have regular school + online school for those who have already opted for it. Sounds like a mess in the making.

Telling them what to do will surely help.

My grandmother made stuffed cabbage rolls back in the day (Eastern European). I opened a new can of sauerkraut this evening. It was good.

.
Interestingly, about 70% are going back to the classroom and 30% choose online.

I haven't had sauerkraut in a while. Nor cabbage. I prefer Brussel Sprouts.

We don't really have winter. Sometimes it rains and a cold day here would be in the mid 50s. It's hot a lot of the year and sometimes it's beautiful. Where I live is about 25 miles from downtown LA over a small mountain range, so no coastal cooling influence like LA gets. It can be over 100 for weeks on end. A few years ago it was 115 and our a/c quit working. I've been on rides when it's been over 110.

My grandmother used to make sauerkraut in a large crock in her basement.
The memory of which has rendered the canned stuff inedible, some of the jarred stuff is marginally "ok".

That's the one thing I'm sure we can count on; nothing will be properly planned. MLB is all over bar the shouting. NFL will get cancelled during training camp, probably the first week. Do I maintain hope that cycling can proceed?

My wife’s been making sauerkraut lately. And kimchi. I’m not into either one. She and an organic farmer friend are preparing an instructional slide show for some upcoming event.
