Ever Strip Black Paint From Alloy Parts?
It's hard to find silver/alloy parts these days, especially on a budget, so on my current bike I have a few black parts which I'd rather were the bare metal finish. Eg, a black cannondale stem and bars, black Athena brifters. I also have a black Sugino compact crankset I'd like to use, but it's not nearly as sexy as the 39/53 silver Campag pair that's on there now. What's the quickest/easiest/best way to strip the paint finish off? Ideally I wouldn't be using hazardous chemicals but can accommodate if it's the only way.

I successfully stripped the black from some 9 speed 105 components. I used EZ Off oven cleaner. I've since been advised it will eat up alloy parts so I guess I was lucky in my ignorance. After the black came off the parts had a mottled gray appearance. NevrDull easily took care of that. This may not be relevant to your situation as there are surely different finishes, surface and underlying. The Shimano parts seemed to have been the usual shiny silver underneath the black.

It depends on if it's paint or anodizing.

scuff it & spray over it. That's if it's just black paint.

I used Red Devil Lye to remove the anodizing off two cranks and a stem. Doesn't take long, a couple minutes in the solution and wipe away. Then buff away until you get the shine you want.

I would just get silver components. Maybe consider trading with people. Plenty of silver stuff still out there but it is harder in full gruppos.
