Project Trek 520
At least I think it’s a Trek 520. I’m guessing a 1983 Trek 520, to be exact. I bought it from the original owner tonight for $250.00. This will be for my wife’s birthday. She’s been wanting a road bike to ride with my daughter and I, both of which are C&V bikes of similar vintage, so this Trek looked perfect.
All in all, the bike is in fantastic condition. Very few paint scratches. Very little rust. Rides perfect. Just needs some cleaning, adjustment and TLC.
I’m sure my wife will want a more modern cockpit, so at least the brake levers will end up being swapped out. I may also have to move shifters to the stem for now. But I’ll try to keep it as original as possible, within the confines of her progressing riding abilities, and box away the old parts. I think a Brooks saddle is in order.
Does anybody know what this thing is, on the downtube? Is it supposed to pop down and hold the front wheel straight?

That bike is an awesome score.
