DIY alignment tool for Simplex Derailleur Hanger
Am building up an old Peugeot, and wasn't real confident the derailleur hanger was aligned. My Park tool won't thread on, so I built up this tool from a 5/16 hardened bolt, nuts & washers, and a 4' length of angle iron. Had to periodically loosen and tighten, but worked just fine with a combination square as the "feeler" so thought I'd share!

Cool. I’ll pack this idea away for future reference.

I work in a LBS and wanted one for home but didn't want to buy! Did a similar setup using square tubing and a steel ruler

That looks brilliant. Could you please explain the geometry. What is the measurement you are looking for.

I believe the square allows him to measure the distance from the steel bar to the rim. Measure on multiple spots.

That's great. It's so satisfying to align a hanger with the Park tool, and this looks like even more fun in that it's homemade. I would never have thought of it, but as others have said I'm keeping the idea in my back pocket from now on.
