im thinking of getting a chain tensioner on my kilo tt.


i was thinking something like this:



but i dont know what your guys ideas are on this.

are they that big of a deal?

and would something like this be a good idea for my frame?

Look at bens and dans comp. They both have tons to choose from. Almost any will work on your frame. Not really needed, but can be sure handy at times.

i tend to lose tension and have to pull my wheel back about once a week.

just go to your lbs and get some bmx tensioners they run for like 2-3 bucks each. or spend 30 on those mks ones..

i have to pull my back wheel back every day, to the extent that my chain will actually come off if i hit a speed bump at any speed..... i dont know how i lost tension so regularly.
it is tremendously irritating.

why are you guys losing tension so easily?

I lose tension after a few days and typically tighten everything up about once every week or two. I tend to ride pretty hard and my chain stretches.

this got me thinking i may pick some of these up soon. my chain came off after i went down this hill. i met up with some people and was walking my bike along side them and look down and my chain is off. idk how when or why it fell off but i was just glad it didnt while going down hill. luckily tools were at hand to adjust the tension for me to get home.

The redline tensioners are good.. I used them once on my bikes.. but really you don't need them.

hmmm. tighten the wheel nuts and you wont have a problem with the tension

yeah, never had a problem. feel like those losing tension are doing something very strange.

Exactly.

You guys losing tension are having problems that usually is fixed with a wrench, not a chain tensioner. Try cranking down on your track nuts a bit harder next time you need to adjust your chain tension.

would street conditions make it lose tension? i tighten everything pretty well i would think. but i do his some bad spots avoiding pot holes but theres still bad spots. i live in tulsa and its in the top ten worst streets in america. one street in particular made the top ten in north america.

I lose tension even with my chain tensioners on and tight, leading me to believe it's due to chain stretch.

^^^ If you're experiencing what you think is excessive chain stretch maybe your chain is too tight in the first place. Or maybe you need a better chain.

Do any of you use a torque wrench? If so, what do you torque your nuts to?

I go over cobblestones every day and don't lose tension very rapidly.

I use a 6" adjustable wrench and give it a pretty good turn. I am guessing that chain is way too tight and bolts way too loose.
