It's held on with an allen screw. I'm out of town and can't look but I think it's on the inside (right side of left grip) and on the bottom facing up. I'll be home tomorrow night so post again if you can't find it and I'll verify the location.

There is actually an allen headed fastener on both ends of the grip. Just back them both off a bit and the end cap will slide out as will the entire grip. For some reason they are different sizes (2 and 2.5 MM IIRC).

I got my Bar End Adaptors today
I've fitted them with some Specialized P2 Over Endz Bar Ends.
My LBS wasn't aware of the new adaptors, they said they've ordered some for their own stock.
All fitted nice n easy, I didn't use the new rubbers - just cut the old ones like others here.
Thanks for all the info

I recently bought this bike and am in the same position as everyone else but I can't seem to find this product anywhere on the Bontrager website. Has it been recalled or stopped? Can anyone provide a link? Thanks if anyone has any more recent info.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I am wondering if any of you that have used this product also use a mirror? Does the adapter have a "normal" hole where the cover goes?

LeeRoy...you don't use a mirror or one won't fit in the adapter?

There is no way to mount a standard bar end mount mirror. There is a mirror available from Mirrcycle (SP?) that mounts on the end of the the original setup, but it will not work with the bar end adapters. Unfortunately its the adapters or a mirror but not both without some serious custom fabrication.

Thanks for the info. Is there a mirror that would attach to the bar end near it's base somehow? New to mirrors and these bars are proving to be a big pita.

I am not really an expert on mirrors either. I googled around a bit and didn't find any readily apparent solutions last fall when I was working on this. Its actually my wife's bike and as soon as it got a bit chilly she gave up for the winter so I haven't really researched any further. I did buy her a "take a look" mirror that mounts on your glasses to try as a possible solution, but neither she nor I have tried it out yet. Maybe someone else here will chime in with a more simple and elegant solution for you.

It takes a little work, but it can be done. When I got my 7.3FX last August I really missed my little Zefal spin mirror so I modified it to go on the Trek handlebars. Then when I got the bar end adapters my modification wouldn't work so I had to modify the adapter to work with my modified mirror. Acutally I used the left adapter as a pattern to make one that would work with my modified mirror. The bar end adapters weren't available when I did my mirror but if I were doing it again I think I would just cut the part of the mirror that goes inside the handlebars off, drill and tap the end of the bar end adapter and bolt the mirror to it. Many people don't like a little mirror, but I found it perfect, big enough to see and can swivel out of the way to lay the bike on the non drive side. And at $7.00 at Walmart it's cheap enough that it's not a big loss if a modification doesn't work out. And I agree that those bars are a pain, probably easier to just change them to regular bars.

Trek got back with me...here is the reply..

Hello,

Due to the nature of the design, it is not possible to facilitate both accessories simultaneously. The adapter end requires the space the mirror would possess. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Blah blah blah

I have bought the official adapter kit for the Bontrager IsoZone grips but am not sure of the best way to install the adapter prior to clamping on the bar ends. My LBS recommends moving the brakes and shifters in a bit, and then inserting the end-cap adapter. They say that the white rubber strip is a "spare". This doesn't seem right to me. Does any one have any instructions for fitting the adapter?

You will need to move the brakes and shifters in. There are no instructions for this on the official adapter kit so its just badly done by Trek. I don't think the white rubber strip is a spare as it is shorten to fit the bar end that tightens to hold it in place.

+1. That's exactly what I had to do to install the Bontrager bar-end adapters on my 2013 7.5 FX. And @2702 is right. The IsoZone rubber strips are not spare parts. You will need to replace the original ones with those in order to be able to install the adapters.

Thanks very much, that makes sense.

I just got a Trek 7.4 FX a few weeks ago, and I was looking into getting some bar ends. The adapter kit comes as a pair, right, so no need to order one for each side of the handlebar?

anyone know if the origin 8 drop bars will fit on the IsoZone bar after adding the adapter? I just picked up my 7.4 FX today and hope to ride it soon. is the IsoZone handlebar/grip setup really nice, or is it a gimmick?

The Bontrager bar-end adapters work with any clamp-styled bar-ends. I love the IsoZone grips on my 7.5 FX. I have bar-ends installed, but I hardly ever use them because the grips are so comfortable.
