Great looking bike. What's the exact model and year? When I look up Scott Boulder sports series I get all sorts of resuls, mostly 26inch suspension fotk mountain bikes.

thanks, this Boulder is in Scott catalogues from 1994. Tires, wheels, saddle, handlebar, crankset , grips, bar ends , stem, v brakes and cables are new. Shifters, seat post, front and rear mech are original.

Me thinks they're 26inch wheels which gives that impression.

Is it just me... from the rear triangle and brake clearances, the Boulder looks like a mountain bike.

Yep, its 26 inch frame 20,5 size born as a mtb , now a city commuter with road tires and sort of a hybrid to me.

I was looking at bar ends, but then decided to narrow my handlebars instead. That, and padded short-finger cycling gloves, has made me give up on the idea, at least for now. I can use the grips, or move inboard and hold the gear/brake clusters comfortably. If I were to go to bar ends, looking at how I move my hands around on the bars they'd probably be fitted inboard rather than at the bar ends.

I scored a very nice stem for my 750 from a bike co-op today when I was in the DC area for a work meeting (I was looking for a more upright stem), so I installed that tonight and figured I'd throw in another couple of bar end pictures. These are in anodized silver, to match the other silver/chrome trim on this bike. I think I paid $10 for the pair of bar ends some months ago (Craigslist) and I paid $5 for the stem today.

to reiterate others: who cares what others think- if they work for you, do it! and there are many choices out there; whatever works

as for me, Ive been using simple nashbar ends, mounted at the end, tilted up a little. been usin em for many years. (but, they are a lil too small & slippery, to I roll on a piece of inner tube)

Debating whether to put grip tape on or not?

Nice setup overall.

But I would ditch those skinny pedals.

Cycling ain't for people who are normal. Bar ends fall under cycling.

Bar ends = no no on a mountain bike.

Bar ends OK on a hybrid bike.

I'm also thinking about fitting inside mounted bar ends, and this seems to be the only layout that could work for me, since the shifters' display part prevents anything to be mounted right inside them, and I have a riser bar, which curves and gets thicker closer to the middle, so no place for bar ends closer to the center either.

They're way too narrow. I found a very nice large silver platform pedal this week at a co-op, but I couldn't find its twin. These are so narrow, about a third of my foot hangs off the side. Next time I come across some nice silver or chrome platforms, I'll probably buy a set.

It's just about right for my hands. Even before installing the inner bar ends I had some space between the inner edge of the grip and the shifter clamp. Adding the bar ends made me move the shifter by only a few mm and I didn't find it uncomfortable. I guess I could mount the bar ends on the other side (I removed the optical gear displays for a cleaner look some time ago) but I wanted them as far apart as possible to sort of imitate the brake hoods on a drop bar which are usually 38-42cm wide. M bar is 58cm and the inner bar ends are about 33cm apart. If I had a wider bar this could change things a bit.
