On the road bike it usually goes in my handlebar bag or less often, my saddlebag. On the mountain bike, I have a phone wallet that velcros onto the shoulder strap of my hydration pack. You can see it in the picture here:

I recently switched to a cellular watch. Samsung galaxy watch. It is great. I wear it on my wrist all day. I do not have to have my cell phone with me. It has a great app when it comes to cycling.

I carry my phone in the pocket of my shorts.
I have yet to lose it but if I did it would be no big deal to me except for the added expense of having to replace it.
I am 53 but I guess I have still not gotten old enough yet to worry about nonsense like my dear old grandmother.
Pretty sure my friends and family are not going into panic mode either if I am off the grid for awhile.
Gotta go.
I am off to change into clean underwear in case I get into an accident.

I can see the safety factor in phones. I just.. I dunno… whether or not I have mine with me is dependent upon my wife's need to know where I am I guess. Although that red phone holder accessory looks pretty neat.

Good reminder. After my brother’s incident I checked the emergency information in my phone. I added my total hip replacement to my medical information as if my scar wasn’t enough evidence.

One item I don't yet have I think is a good idea is a tourniquet band in every seat bag. I take a daily 81 mg aspirin and my blood is fairly thin. My brother witnessed a weightlifter type (heavy but not fat) guy riding what must have been a BSO bike with a long seat tube that broke off cutting his leg deeply right around the femoral vein. Luckily he was in a populated area of the Raleigh greenway system, because he nearly bled out before EMS arrived.

It is extremely sturdy. My phone isn't going anywhere. Its also low profile. My one concern is to be moderate in screwing my phone in so I don't damage my phone when securing it into the mount. I tend to over-tighten things. To make me feel better I used the mesh rubber-band from the first mount on the second. That way I only tighten a little but the rubber band holds it the rest. I prefer the new mount.
for both of these, I like that there are no mounting pieces on my phone.

I like the Topeak phone mount, and I use their Panobike app. The mount holds my iPhone 6S Plus without moving, the app does a good job of measuring speeds, climbs, descents, and recording my riding routes.
I would prefer to ride without my electronic leash, but I run a small e-commerce business, and am always at work, even when riding.

Used the Roam mount for a spell, but seemed I was having to tighten it all the time. Been carrying a messenger bag the last part of this year so I have ditched the Roam; not like I need Google Maps or look at Facebook when I ride.

Oddly I did 3 long Bike tours , including 1 behind the only months ago, freshly discarded into the dust bin of history Warsaw pact countries
of Eastern Europe Poland and Czechoslovakia,
that were behind the Iron Curtain until march of that year,
With out a GPS, Phone, and extensive pre planning, ... and used paper maps, including one of Poland I got from a fellow passenger
While on a Ferry from Copenhagen, under way on the voyage there.. on the Baltic Sea..
....
