I played one of my toughest climb videos for a friend today. It was one of the older ones recorded with the Kodak Playsport mounted on the handlebars, so the heavy breathing was good and loud! He said "There you go having sex again!"

We have a ride planned this morning with 4 climbs. Only 2200 ft of climbing, but each one has a stretch of 10% grade, and 24% on 1 of them.

Should be interesting!

It might have at that. We rode 58 miles, and made the 4 climbs (along with several other assorted smaller hills). I confess I had to stop twice on the last climb, but I did get going again.

At some point I may purchase a cam to use on bike rides, but, that will come after a Garmin computer and a new bike....

And I know you got a great rush from working that hard too. But, in my humble and very old opinion, it still doesn't even come close to sex!!

Sounds like a good ride!

If you get one, keep the original ride audio in your videos so the viewer gets the full experience of a good sufferfest. Also, the videos will be very appropriate for this thread!

Do you mount the cam on the bike?

Yes. For that video I mounted the cam on the handlebars, because if I mount it any lower on that folding Bike Friday, you get an obnoxious creaking sound coming from the handlepost. This is why the cam is mounted on the bars on the San Francisco steep climb video I posted last month.

On my regular road bikes I mount the camera on the head tube now. It gives a much more stable video with less less wobble, which is normally caused by the bars moving back and forth on climbs.

I use a program called DashWare to overlay the data from my Garmin Edge 500 onto the video. DashWare has a bunch of different gauges you can use, but I chose to make my own because I didn't want the screen cluttered up too much.

That's very useful site freighttraininguphill - I've already got the Garmin, looks like I'll be getting a helmetcam and maybe even the Dashware software quite soon!

Seriously though, I like natural sound on ride videos, especially climbs or videos with conversations between riders.

Ooops! - I wasn't being cheeky, I've been living on this forum for the past few days since I discovered it, and all sense of time seems to have vanished. I'm NEVER going to be able to read all the posts.

I'll only be putting up any that might be considered impressive - so you might have a wait :o) Trust me, although I live in a hilly city, nothing I do will compare to the inclines you achieve.

Downhill, I'm sure I'd be fine. But I'd need a TagAlong with an oxygen bottle, hose and mask to attack some of the inclines you seem to enjoy!

I didn't think you were being cheeky. I normally respond much quicker than I did though.

You would be surprised at what people seem to like. I've put up some videos that I figured were mediocre, yet they seem to be well liked, so if you take a hilly ride on one of your favorite routes post away!

I do keep the ride audio. My last ride was the Bass Lake Double Century, but I didnt record the climbs there. I will check the video I made for the Carmel Valley DC, back in August. That ride had the Nacimiento-Ferguson climb, as well as the Calhoon summit climb (between King City and Carmel)

Oops! I didn't realize that when I edit one of my old posts it notifies whoever I quoted! I've spent the last several days editing and deleting old posts that had dead links to the YouTube videos I used to post in here years ago. I deleted my YouTube channel several years ago, so if I want to post a video nowadays (which I never do anymore) I use Pinkbike.

I know you make good raw videos, as I saw them on Facebook

I want to get back to climbing again, but we have had the worst air quality in all my 31 years of living in this area so I'm only doing short slow rides around town until the air clears up. This is due to the fires in Paradise, which are the worst in the state's history. I really feel for the victims of this disaster.

To anyone else reading this, I sincerely apologize for resurrecting a thread that's almost 7 years old. It was not my intention to do so. I was just removing dead video links from old posts, and apparently when I did that to posts where I quoted someone it alerted them.
