Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Aussies are having their very own party in an Australiyarn way, so bout time for an across the ditch attack with our own Kiwi thread.

So how many of you Kiwis are there? there's me, Bmw_maniac, Greywolf and a few others. Out you all come!!

By the way, if anyone wants to know about our country just ask in here.

We have Sarah Ulmer racing track (kicked some australian Mactier ass!) Julian Dean, Jeremy Yates, Roulston, all in Pro teams (Julz was in le tour!) Greg Henderson....quite a few overseas....my Coach threw in the professional racing towel 3 months ago so now he's ripping up the local scene haha (Gordon McCauley)..there are others overseas just too many to know.... Heath Blackgrove as well.

Touring is indeed spectacular, but please come in summer! winter sucks! down the line you get -7 deg C at night!

Racing scene....well depende what sort of racing you like? when I get my website working again (the upload half of it) I'm going to redesign and list all our overseas riders. oh theres another....David Rae.....currently in aussie somewhere.

want to elaborate on what exactly you want to know?

Brendon
P.S. touring is HILLY in places

Yes we have hills boy!

And yes a good signing of Roulsten there...who knows...with Dean and Yates in Credit A, we might end up with 3 TdF riders?! one can only hope

Yeah and he is now my coach! Aiming for the NZ U23 Road TT title, then the Open Mens title. Spending the next YEAR building up for Nationals, will see how my U23 TT goes, and if I don't win it I'll get it the next year.

You guys(blokes) have been taking to many walkabouts in the hot outback sun. You need to get some shade under a eucalyptus tree somewhere.

Hills? We've got plenty of hills - here's a couple of rides you can do with a couple of hills in October and November

K1/K2 100km or 200km - https://www.sportzhub.com/arc/K2/
Round Taupo 160km - https://www.cyclechallenge.org.nz/

Profiles are attached as well.

Hi NZ Crew, I grew up in Tauranga, riding all around the area. Then moved to Walkworth. But now I live in the middle of the USA. Came over 4 years ago for a kayaking/biking trip and got married. Hope to get home soon. Good to hear from all of you over there.

Hey Brendon,

I am planning on riding K2 (first time) and Taupo again this year. If I can complete K2 in better than 6:30 I'll be happy. I am aiming for under 5:00 for Taupo.

Henders - you'll be pleased to know there are plenty of cyclists on the roads around Tauranga. I am sure that Welcome Bay and Reid Rd carry more cycle traffic than cars some days.

Cheers,
Lindsay

Greetings NZers, will put my input in here, I ride a track bike around Auckland, have had it for a couple of months, just getting used to the fixed gear thing, it's a lot of fun Probably not the most practical since Auckland is fairly hilly in places, and I don't do waterfront... ah well...

the ockers trying to take over this thread is just typical aussie behaviour - jumping on the kiwi bandwagon and claiming it for your own (see also crowded house, phar lap, john clarke, russell crowe (you can have him) etc etc etc). who's got the beldisloe cup then eh? eh?

choice bro

I was in Auckland a couple years back when you lost it...funniest thing I ever saw. Only problem is that you can't make fun of 'man mountains' for crying without having your back broken in 3 places. I just shut up and enjoyed the drama unfolding around me...
