Shellacked Newbaum's on 3 bikes.
I've found that if the bar tape starts to get a little dingy or grungy looking over time, that another shot of shellac does a good job of recharging the color.

It would, but I'm reserving orange for that day when I can trade my much-too-small Speedwell for one in my size so I can do an Ocaņa:

All my fix gears have always worn cloth. Probably always will. There's good reason for it. Climbing fixed is an animal grunt, quite unlike the dainty spin of the geared folk. (Yeah, I know I'll get told that RPMs fall to a very slow 70 RPM or so. But I have done climbs fixed where 30 was outside my heart's capacity.) Yes, most of that grunting is done on the hoods, but not all. Wind in my face and I may be climbing for miles in the drops. The end result is my bar tape takes a beating. Both wear and the effects from trying to twist it. If the tape fails with hills to go, nursing the tape along and getting up the hills is asking a lot. Stopping and ripping it off sucks.
That's where cloth rules. The ultimate failure happens, the palm of your glove now sits on bare HB and there are no other drawbacks except loss of style points. (My fix gears don't have style points. They're too delicate.)

I like the ease of use of cotton tape, the strength, & color choices.
I am beginning to love Benotto tape for that slim handle bar look. When period correctness calls for it, or course.

Yeah Ragnar, that is bad ass. It is perfect for that bike. It inspires me to try 3 color harlequin, but I think I will try 2 color first.

holy cow! I'm impressed!
Am I correct in thinking that instead of using two strips of tape that a regular harlequin wrap uses, this uses 4 strips of tape (1 red, 1 black, and 2 white)?
If so, that definitely explains the need for extra hands! Heck, even if you could get someone to help, your arms would be a tangle while trying to get it done. The mind boggles!

I had to double back and redo a couple of times at the levers, it was quite tricky to negotiate both the clamp and the brake cable's entry into the handlebar.
I'm not a beer fan, but I did have a bottle of brown liquid from Scotland nearby...
Internal brake cable routing, as was the fashion at the time.

@callig - beautiful Condor. Would love to see more pics of that bike elsewhere on this forum.
@ragnar.jensen - best harlequin taping job I have ever seen. I've never been a fan because I'd never seen a full-bar harlequin wrap that looked even half-decent. Can't imagine the precision that went into getting yours into that perfect end state.

ragnar-jensen, that is beautiful work on the tape.
Just completed my first shellac job and wrapping , using Alex Singers method. I applied one coat of amber , to get a close tonal match to my saddle, followed by 5 coats of clear shellac. I'm ok with the results, I'll have to see how it hold up, during the season KB.

Well it isn't really a vintage bike but I use Brooks Cambium bar tape to match the C17 saddle. It's comfy enough, but I also have gel inserts and tyre tubes in the bars.
