Schwinn High Sierra 1984
I cannot post photos yet, as I am a new member. But I have what I think is a 1984 High Sierra. I bought it brand new in March of 1985, so maybe it could be an '85? But I have not seen the same configuration on this bike on other posts about it. It has the "Bull Moose" stem and Sakae MT handlebar, not the chrome triangular bar/stem setup on other people's photos. The stem is SR MTS-100. It has Suntour power thumb shifters. Rear derailleur is Shimano Nexave, front is Suntour Mountech. It is cream and brown colored and has Suntour XC Sport brake levers and roller cam brakes. Anybody have the same?

Will have a date code on the head badge. I've had a lot of those bull moose style stems. They were very popular. Clearly you replaced the RD at one point. Neither 1985 or 1984 had roller cams, so that is out. As I recall, 1986 and 1987 did have roller cams.
High Sierras from that era were quite nice, but have very limited value. Can make a nice ride, or a great source of parts. Its one of the models I keep an eye out for as they are relatively plentiful.

I've only seen a couple of those bikes -- one about the same vintage as it had the roller-cam brakes. Looked to be pretty well made and nicely appointed bikes. Seem to remember some nice mid-flange Sunshine hubs. Nicely brazed and finished. Weren't some of them chrome under a translucent charcoal?
There was one on the Houston CL that started at $175 and was on for about 6 months and got down to $100 and then disappeared. Had it to do over again, I'd have bought it at $100. Hell of a lot of bike for $100.

Thats a Giant date code = October 1985, so likely a 1986 model. Shop may have had a time machine?
"Some Taiwanese (built by Giant) Schwinns have a date code (on the right rear axle hanger or on the bottom bracket shell) in the format 'Gmmyy'. The letter "G" followed by a two-digit month code (01 = January etc.) and two more digits for the production year (81 = 1981 etc.)."
If you don't trust that information, then look up component codes on original parts. Most will have date codes, and the codes are going to much later than 3/15/1984. So either the receipt is wrong, or someone had a time machine.

Yeah, so I looked again and the receipt says 86, not 84 (hard to read). So I also saw the exact same bike on LostArchitect's post and he also says 1986. Thanks for the good info.
