Ritchey Road bikes?
What do you guyes think of Ritchey road bikes (before he made mountain bikes)? All I've been able to find is a brief history.. Ive had trouble even finding pictures of other peoples bikes.

The late 70's-early 80's fillet brazed bikes are really nice. Gorgeous and fast. I bought one used in '81, jade green with yellow lettering. Great bike but did not fit me well enough so I sold it after a few months. You do not see those early ones too often.

They are pretty rare. I have only seen them in photos but I had a conversation a couple of years ago with a owner of one who was looking to sell. He was asking $14,000 for it. I politely told him he was on crack.

Ritchey is regarded as one, if not the, finest bicycle craftsman. With people like Steve Potts, Charlie Cunningham and Kent Eriksen all agreeing on that point it's hard to dispute. a few Ritchey's have past through my door with none of them being my size. Any chance you have to secure one of his bikes, actually made by him like the older road bike you are talking about should be taken especially if it fits you.
his later bikes were made by actual Ritchey employees in Japan shipped back here raw where Tom brazed on the cable bosses, canti mounts etc. I've built a Seven Odonata road bike that cost 12,000.00 (1999 dot bomber)so 14,000 for a mint perfect original isn't to far off, if you are rich.

the road bike he hand-built for his father was displayed at the NAHMBS last year, and in the midst of all that fantastic first-rate eye-candy, it stood out as one the most exquisite in the entire hall. And this was the work of a YOUNG Ritchey, an amazing talent.

I still have the frame, as it fits me, and it's the frame that made me famous as a bike painter.

I've converted my Road Logic into a SS: (made many changes since .... yes, it's flipped now!) This machine handles and fits me better than my racer. I know it's not THAT vintage of a machine, but I LOVE my Ritchey!

1981 Ritchey Road bike for sale in Fresno CA
Greetings all
There is a beautiful 1981 Ritchey road bike on consignment at Tower Velo in Fresno, California. It has a 23" blue, filet brazed frame with complete Dura Ace components. Fantastic ride, but too small for me.
Anyone know the history of this bike? Thanks

Ritchey Bikes
If you have one of the early Ritchey road bikes you better hang onto it! I have a 79' Palo Alto Ritchey Road bike that Tom have me in 1980 when I was 15 years old. I was riding an old piece of crap and smacked into a parked car because I was checking out some chick. Tom fixed my old bike and gave me one of his. He stopped building production road frames back in 1980-81.
I also have an 85' Timber Wolf, and a 95' Crazy Pete. I'll post photos of the 79' soon.
oldmountainbikes.com is really the only online source for his old stuff.

In any case, owning a few pieces of history is a treat... Tom is a personal friend of mine, but I've not seen him for a very long time... since the late 90's...

Interesting forum! I did a lot of advertising/logo work for Tom Ritchey in the early '80s. Part of my payment was for Tom to personally build me a "made-to-measure" road racing bike. The bike still hangs on my office wall...unfortunately more "art" than "transportation" these days.
It is...without a doubt...still a "stunner" of a frame. 53cm...imron black...(silca frame pump painted to match)...handmade (imron black) Tom Ritchey stem...TR logo decals only on head tube and seat tube...lugwork that is beautiful beyond description. I just found this forum by accident...and if anyone sees this post...and is interested enough to request it...i will gladly post pix of my ride. later....
