2013!! How Was your Commute Today?

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Just as predicted the ride home was a BEAST! What took only 66 minutes this morning, took 82 minutes this evening. Very tough ride. Luckily the wind that was 20 MPH when I left the office started slacking off the closer I got home.
Toes were frozen solid once again.

It is supposed to warm up to 37F here tomorrow... I might wear shorts.

Definitely feeling the cold rolling through: 33F / 1C and a moderate headwind coming in. Had the goggles on and need to add a layer to my Fall attire.

24°F with a 5mph cross wind, clear skies, and frost on the ground.
For most of the ride, it was as-if I was the only one up and moving.
Not bad, my left foot toes got a little cold.. just the one foot though.. kinda weird.

Coldest commute since last spring with temps in the upper 20s F. I like the cold weather, so it felt great. I did have to layer up with more clothes, and wore my warmest tights and gloves, balakava, and wool base layer for the first time in months.
It was also my first commute on my new commuter bike, a Gunnar Crosshairs. I bought the frame used and moved parts from another bike for the build. Trying some different setups than what I've been using for commuting for a while. I put a rear rack on the bike with a Banjo Brothers racktop bag. Also running some narrower tires, 25 mm Conti GP 4000s with reflective sidewalls. I would prefer 28s but the reflective sidewalls are nice during the winter since I ride so much in the dark. I'm going without full fenders for the time being but have some SKS Raceblades that I can easily strap on when rain is threatening. I can always ride my touring bike with full fenders if rain is more likely.
I would like to say that I set all kinds of speed records on my new bike, but it was a slow commute due to the cold.

Lesser winds this morning but tonight I should have a 30-50 kmh headwind. the winds are slowly getting to my nerves...

I had to leave early this morning so dark ride the whole way, 19F. The real issue was that I carried a full business suit and my laptop - felt like I was pulling a trailer. I think I'm gonna start carrying overage in a backpack instead of panniers, even though I hate backpacks!

Coldest commute so far this year at 20F with the wind chill likely making it colder during gusts. Had enough layers, and I switched to my Polartec fleece, but I'm still using cotton warmth layers, so was getting a bit chilly because of the sweat just as I got to work. Saw plenty of black ice, but once I saw it, I managed to avoid it. Haven't bought studded tires yet. Waiting to see if it's going to be a wet season this year in Boston.

I knew right away that you were in the Pacific Northwest, without looking at your location information.
It was a pretty warm morning commute, wasn't it. I overdressed myself.

Reading your posts makes miss my bike even more. I've been recovering from a very hilly trail half marathon last weekend. Just walking has been painful. I'm looking forward to riding to work tomorrow. This may be my first sub freezing commute ever.

COLD.
It was below freezing this morning. I'm a four season bike commuter, and have ridden on much colder days, but the first cold day of winter always feels colder than it probably should.

Cold ride in today...25F when I left. I'm battling a small cold and was off the bike for 5 days, so my legs are a bit weaker than normal. At least the cold air cleans out my sinuses!
Tomorrow won't be fun: 20s in the morning and 50s in the afternoon.

It's been chilly this week and I was lazy this morning and drove to work.
Put new bars on my bike and had to do a few things to it last night.
Will get back to commuting tomorrow.

Raining, drizzling, pouring constantly these last few days, but I'm still on the saddle.
Unfortunately almost all of the latest crop of bicycle commuters I use to pass on my way to and from work have disappeared with the first few drops of rain, except for this one 70ish+ lady which I see on my morning commute riding a very old Mercier with drop bars and small gym bag on the rear rack!
Have never had the chance to speak with her, but always exchange a small nod!

First commute in over a week due to travel, holiday, working from home. My cycling mileage has been pretty pathetic for the last month, actually. Getting soft. Temperatures were decent this morning, just above freezing. Caught a bit of rain for the last few minutes of the commute. Installed the studded tires last night because snow and ice is a given now. The rain and warmer temps might clear most of the snow from the roads and trails, but it's only a matter of time before the next cold snap and snowfall.
For eight months of the year, I can't get enough cycling. This morning though, at the halfway point, I caught myself thinking, "Only halfway?!?!" There's something about the cold and the slower speeds that gets me down every fall. I'm still at the point where I would rather endure the cold and lengthier commute than take the bus, but I am wondering how much longer I'll feel that way.

Anyway, my bus commute involves a connection, and I'll often find myself out in the cold when the bus is running late. That's when I'll check my watch and think -- gee if I'd ridden the bike, I'd be there by now.
The bright side is that the commute is 90% of my winter riding. Those miserable miles in the cold and/or dark pay off when Spring comes and I don't have to fight my way back into condition.

My commute home today was dangerous. I couldn't stop thinking about work and the two-faced, bumbling, self-serving, assclowns in charge. My ride is on a very busy 2-lane road that is the main route from Yokosuka to Yokohama. Not having my head in the game will get me killed some day. ...I don't like getting killed...neither does the love of my life much like the idea of my death.

Very nice out this morning. 29degF, calm, partly cloudy. I took the sole pad out of my cycling shoes and put on very thick merino wool socks as a test. It is surprisingly comfortable with the Neoprene booties and I noticed it is not quite so cold. Just slightly cool. Not sure how it will be when it gets really cold.
