Chain Guide For 1x
Hey everyone. The Giant TCX that I purchased came with Apex 1x and a "Giant 1x Chain Guide". Are these chain guides any good? Any great case to keep it on? Would I be dropping my chain left and right without it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'd just leave it on.
The only UCI team on 1x on road, Aqua Blue Sport...they lost races because they were having dropped chains on 1X....and they were using narrow-wide chainrings. AAMOF, their DS and riders were incredibly salty about the whole thing.

I run a praxis chain guide with a N/W chainring and clutched RD for cross racing. Its couple grams and helps when the mud builds up in the chain and chainrings and rides up on the teeth possibly causing a drop. I don't have a b bike in the pits to swap between laps so its worth the additional retention

I typically drop my chain once per ride. If I were racing, this would be a major problem.
I added a very simple homemade chain guide and never drop it anymore.

If you ride in the mud frequently leave it on. Especially if you're racing cross.
If not, it doesn't really matter. I've never had the chain come off my 1x Rival crank (with a clutched XT RD), but I don't see a ton of mud where I am and I don't race.
