My Jones leaning against a tire of what was until very recently the largest truck in the world. This is in Sparwood BC.

I found tracks of a wolf stalking an elk on a road behind Red Mountain, which is about 20 miles outside of Butte Montana. I put the Garmin by the track to show how large this track really is. You feel different when all alone, in the middle of nowhere (or so close to nowhere you can see from where you are) and the really big creature is there somewhere with you...

Apparently they get lots of snow in these parts. Not sure how the plow truck would get through it all. As it was, this road was closed to four wheel traffic due to snow, some of which required a bit of a push. This is about 20 miles outside of Tetons National Park on the Ashton Flagg Ranch road. Sorry for the separate posts; I tried to post all the photos in one post but the site didn't like it. This year I was able to make it into Colorado from Banff in about 3 weeks; about 1600 miles. Fully loaded (with water) the Jones was about 60 pounds. If you've ever thought about giving the Tour Divide a go, I'd consider doing it soon- many of the vistas on the ride are now threatened by mining and logging and may not exist in ten years, although the area of this shot probably will as its right on the border of Yellowstone.

They freak me out too, there is a pack whose territory includes our cabin. Those fire roads are in the middle of nowhere.

On the other hand, there have been only 2 fatal wolf/human attacks in the last 20 years. And those were under unusual circumstances.

No pictures, and not a bike ride, but a couple of weeks ago, my wife and friends and I took a hike in Becket State Forest in Massachusetts. We had never seen bear skat before, and we saw about six piles of it on a one hour hike.

Strangely enough, this billboard is on the way to Needles, where you can also buy marijuana. 🤔😁

I'm sure customers will remember it's on "J" Street.

The Canada portion of the Tour Divide has a dirt road section in BC known as the 'Grizzly Hiway' since it goes through an area of BC that has one of the higher bear populations in the North American continent. I lost count of how much scat was present on the road- clearly in Canada the bear leaves scat wherever it likes (contrary to popular anecdote grizzly scat does not contain partially digested bells...). When descending the Galton Pass, I encountered four black bears at different spots (I was descending just before dusk so they were probably more active at that point). The last of the 4 was pretty big and standing up seems he might have been between 6 and 7 feet. But as I encountered them I just yelled at them like I was really pissed off; that combined with my speed (the descent off Galton pass is a loss of 4500' over ten miles) and the noise my bike was making they all turned and bolted up the hill. Not sure what I would have done if they had stood their ground but it might have involved stopping rather quickly...

Groovy idea, buds. Google street view shows 420 J St might be located under an overpass.
Zoom out though and there's a McDonalds a stoned throw away. How convenient.

We've got a pretty healthy black bear population here in PA. Occasionally they come out into the populated areas of the local townships.
This guy took a bag of bird seed from our patio last year.

He wasn't that big, but there are some really big ones here.

Surprised by the bears and other critters on this thread?
This house faces right at us as we suddenly come upon it around a curve, it looks as surprised as we are to see it. This angle photographs better though.

Not so convenient, really. That McDonald's sits on a gnarly hill, and the streets are weird. Only one street has access to McDonald's, and that "overpass" is route 40, a pretty busy highway. Let's just say it's not really pedestrian-friendly. 🙄😉

A street name in the neighborhood appears to be a woman's name misspelled: Antionette (not Antoinette). Fortunately, they misspelled some of their own misspellings. Here are the five signs along the length of that street.

Fascinating -- I didn't know this had a name.
So here's the house as you first see it. You come up out of a stream valley and around a curve -- and there it is.

Whoa!

Yeah, isn't it a great word?
