My schedule isn't locked down enough for me to really have that much structure; so I'm generalizing it towards that upward trend, just not as precise as some. For instance, on Sat I'll be out of town for a week and won't ride at all, etc. etc...
Nutrition question: Is it terribly important to have protein in your diet after a 3 hr Easy-Medium ride? I didn't feel great this morning and am curious if it has to do with the fact I had no protein after my ride and before I went to bed. I've noticed this is a habit for me (pasta + sauce is my post-ride meal cause it'd quick) not to have any protein after my evening rides.

And of course some chocolate milk.
Or eat some yogurt and granola after your pasta.

Thanks for the PM, but my SO and son are only making a "surgical strike" into Beantown. Any off time will be spent with a nephew that is grad student up there. If I was up there with a bike I would most def look you up.

Training status: Still off the bike and it is OK. Tomorrow I get in a ride and I am so looking forward to it.
I had hoped to get back to Gainesville in the mid-afternoon and sneak in a JRA ride, but such was not to be. I just got back into town a few minutes ago and I'm tired from driving et al. I did get a bit of a ride in today because I rented a vehicle to drive back and forth from Orlando so I road my bike back and forth from GNV (the local airport) to pick up/drop off the rental. It is about 6 miles each way from my house.
I do the "bike ride to the airport to pick up a rental vehicle thing," but I bet that very few others do. The first time I did it I asked at the car rental booth for directions to the bike racks and they had no idea where they might be. I did find them and they were covered with spider webs.

Heat index 102F, heading out for about 2.5 hrs. Will put my weekly at 10 for the week.
My plan gives me ~5 hrs tomorrow, weather should be like 75F - Perfect. and ~2 hrs on Saturday morning. 17 for the week will be good because I'm getting 0 next week.

Rolled out the TT bike today..getting ready for the Tour of Gruene TTT on Nov 1. This is a semi serious event for me and my teammate, I'm going to have to take it serious to hang onto his 'just for fun' wheel. Anyway did our local TT route this afternoon and ran into Waterrockets on the road....he sat on my wheel which made me go a bit harder than I'd planned but it was a good effort:
19.07@275w 25mph ave. I took it relatively easy for the first leg then when I caught up to WR I really pushed it, the last 4mi were at 310w.

Vo2 max intervals. CX at this point until end of Nov.
I'm pretty happy to be setting new cadence highs for sprinting (~180rpm). I used to only hover around 130-140rpm.

The last one I kept making excuses to stop but held out. RPE was pushing 11 on the last 5 mins.
Tomorrow: 4 hours endurance if no group ride scheduled.

poop and pee.
It's mid october here in the Boston Burbs and it snowed a bit this morning.
This blows.
So the question becomes (i need some help here), do I:
1. take the day off the bike and get my calorie burn form the elliptical
2. bite the bullet and pull out the rollers
2b. use the trainer instead
3. Keep gore-tex in business and go ride outside for nearly 2 hours
Time is a factor here!

What are your goals this winter? Shed weight?
If so, what would burn more calories?

I choose 2b.
2 hours on the trainer last night at steady state. PE, hearty rate drift, and monotony make for some interesting degrees of hating life.

50' on rollers: 15'@ 83%, then 10' @ 94%. then as I was trying to just stay on the damn rollers I saw the sun peak out so I threw on my outdoor gear over my sweaty mess and got outside in 40 degree, but NOT Snowing, weather and did 30' @ 93%. Word. Lemonade made. F' you, lemons.

First time on the bike "in uniform" since last Sunday and first ride of the new season. I'm feeling better physically (100% over the flu) and mentally (last season is gone, now working toward next year). Today was a super easy 36 mile - 2 hour ride with lots of rain. I took my old racing bike out today and left the new one at home. I will show my old ride some "love" tonight and get it sparkly clean. The new ride will sleep outside in the minivan to learn that it needs to earn its place.
Tomorrow will be a totally new season in North Florida. Projected high temps in the upper 60's F (19 to 20 C for the civilized world). That's colder than the overnight lows since Spring except for a couple of nights. Now I have to start looking for my knee warmers, jacket with removable arms, and base layers. Pretty soon I will need the leg warmers and long sleeved wool jersey. It is still a long time before I need to dig up the neoprene booties and wool tights, though.

Been riding fixed last few days, boy are the legs feeling it. Haven't had sore legs like this since the 600k's this summer, and I only rode the thing about 40 miles.
49x19 @ 60 km/h = 180 rpm if those online calcs are right. Too bad I only hold it for about a sec, and only on a downhill. (and assuming my 705's speed reading is right)

I really wish I could be building base right now.
I'm going to try riding the trainer really easy tomorrow and see how the knee feels for the rest of the day and play it by ear.
Knee still feels weird and tingly/burning but it didn't hurt to walk up and down stairs today. I also didn't ride the fixed at all today, so that might have had something to do with it.
My energy levels are completely dead because I haven't been riding. I ran across campus because I was late to a meeting, and it didn't hurt at all.
So weird...
1 week of so far. Depending on how tomorrow goes on the trainer, I think I'm going to take another week off and see where I'm at after fall break.
Till then, lifting with upper body and core work. Maybe it's a good idea to just stay off the bike for a while and lift to strengthen the core etc. If the knee feels up to it, maybe I'll add lunges and squats in a few weeks. Hopefully that'll strengthen muscles and stop something like this from happening again.

work is messing with my schedule - working funny hours this week, now working 12 hours tomorrow... my base miles aren't anywhere close to what I want them to be.

In Atlanta now through Monday. Celebrating wife's birthday and our 20th anniversary. Eating like a savage. Weight loss goals out the window the next 3 days. Looking forward to a couple hours of slow miles on the tandem on Sunday. Building that TSB right now.

Training status: almost ready to start. Bike gets a major work-up tomorrow. I've already installed my new Thomson seatpost and Speedplay Zeros (only taken them up and down my short little street, but so far, love 'em). Tomorrow will get a detailed cleaning, new tape, new cables, "race" fenders (Planet Bike Speed-EZ, for those icky days). Sometime over the next week, a Specialized Toupe and new shoes. Yeah, it's a weird time of year to give my bike that kind of freshening up, but it's very motivating. I'm most excited about the pedals and shoes, but I can already tell that I'm going to love life with that zero-setback post.
Formulating my training plan over the next week. Boo-ya.

Knee's feeling better, but I can still feel burning sensations in it for no apparent rhyme or reason.
Running doesn't hurt it, which is weird. Walking up stairs didn't hurt it either.
I'll take this week off as well, and concentrate on doing core work and upper body lifting. Maybe I'll just lift till after surgery in november and then get back on the bike.
I think I might try doing squats later next week with light weights just to see how it feels. I don't think it's going to hurt. This is just plain weird.
