C&V Bike ride and show Idea.... What are your thoughts?

Hi Guys and Gals,

I live in the Chicago suburbs about 40 west of the city. I also have a bicycle trail about 2 miles from the house that runs up and down the fox river. There are rural roads to my west but sometimes can be fairly busy.

Here is my thought. Thinking about having a C&V ride along the fox river from Geneva to Oswego and back, Approx 40 miles. If someone would like to ride less they may. Just turn around earlier on the trial or stop and wait for us on the return trip.

The thought was to come back to my house, I'll provide a nice lunch.

Also have a mini bike show. My collection will be on display and others will have their bicycles. Also, if you would like you could bring additional bikes to show. We can secure them at my house while you are riding.

Additionally you can bring parts and such if you would like to sell some, or swap? Not a formal swap situation however it may be a way to turn some of your C&V inventory.

Id really think it would be a lot of fun. You can make a day out of it. If your coming from out of town there is a hotel only a block away as well as several restaurants.

I have been talking with Steve Whitlatch from the forum for a while about it and Im sure I can pressure him into helping with the ride...(hi steve!)

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

JJ

I'll show if you have it on a weekend that's open.

I can bring a couple of bikes that may hold interest to some folks.

We can even make it a two day event if people from out of town want to do a Sunday ride as well? There are two directions you can go from Geneva on the trail. Saturday morning one way. Sunday another way that is a bit more challenging?

If I could talk my buddy into carpooling with me, and if we're both free, Chicago is not so terribly far away from Kansas City that a road trip would be prohibitive.

If anyone wants to fly in and ride one of my bikes for the event, I have bikes from 57 cm up to 62 cm. Just bring pedals.

I just bought a two bike Seasucker rack and was wanting to make a longer trip with it to try it out this year. I know Decorah will be one but this seems like fun. Chicago isn’t a bad drive from the metro Minneapolis/St. Paul.

I’d be in if it’s going to be well attended. Bring a nicer rider and show the Kvale or something. Made a deal with myself to try to attend more group events this year...

That’s a tempting offer in a beautiful location. I’ve spent some time with the Allen’ family clan in Batavia, as that is my former partner’s home town and several brothers still live there.

I'm in. Great area, neat history with the towns along the Fox river.

Also, a friend just mentioned he'd like to join the fun. Original owner of a 1972 Raleigh Super Course - coffee. Its been sitting for years so we'll be doing a complete service.

Seems like there would be some interest. Ill get together with Steve RE the weekend..Maybe float a couple out there and see which is best.

As far as a two day event..Id be open. However I am only willing to sponsor lunch for one day and have my house open one day. Trying to be easy on the wife. But we can do a full day here. Ride in the AM..Lunch here. Or lunch on the trail and show and swap here with a later meal...not sure which would work best.

It's way too far for me to attend but I'm thinking y'all had better post some pics when it happens. That way we can all attend.

Beautiful area.

Consider moving the start point to South Elgin, so you can see the trolleys and vintage rail stuff.

Fabyan Estate is not to be missed. I got married in the Japanese garden there.

I hear ya. However I think it would be best that people start at my house to unload other bicycles or parts. We would be passing the Japanese garden on the way to oswego.
