How long to insoles last?
I've got some Specialized red insoles. As they are relatively flat to begin with, it's hard to know when to replace them, if at all.
Anyone have some thoughts on the life of these things?
Thanks...

I've probably had my Spec insoles for 5 years. When I took them out recently (to dry my shoes after a very wet ride), they looked like they were still in great shape and wouldn't need replacing anytime soon.

I would say when they are physically degraded or if they become uncomfortable. I have a set of Specialized insoles with over 40k miles on them. They've moved between three sets of shoes through the years and are just now starting to wear through the uppermost layer of material. But they are still as comfortable as they were when new. So, I wouldn't go by time or miles, just use them until they are obviously bad in some way. Unless you just want new ones for whatever reason, that's never wrong.

Probably longer than the manufacturer suggests.
As a kid I needed custom orthotics, made of leather then -- no gel or foam. They would have lasted forever and been consistently uncomfortable the entire time.
For walking shoes, the off-the-shelf Dr Scholl's gel insoles I buy last 3 years or longer.
I use Profoot Miracle insoles for my Fizik and Scott road shoes. I think the oldest set has been in regular use since January 2018 and is still fine. Feels pretty much the same as the new set of Miracle insoles I just installed in the other pair of shoes a month ago. The Profoot Miracles aren't gel, they're dense foam, very lightweight, very thin and resilient. Costs about $10 or less. Highly recommended, especially for folks with bony feet and problems with metatarsal hotspots.
