Question about soreness and the foam roller.
Should foam rolling a sore spot make you more sore like you're bruised for a few days afterwards?
I've been trying to loosen up my soleus muscles and when I use the foam roller it feels like I've hit my legs with hammers for at least 2 days afterwards. No "pain" just soreness.

That's not uncommon. Drinking more water and using heat and compression can help.

does it feel like that if you ride just as hard but don't hit the foam roller afterward?

Mine doesn't make me feel like that at all. It hurts like hell when doing it, but after my legs just feel sore overall from the ride. Though, I'm not sore the next day, even after an extremely hard ride. I used to be sore for days before starting to use the foam roller and compression socks and now I can get in a solid ride the day following a super hard workout.

When I took a month off and got back on it my hip joint knee (basically the IT connections) hurt like hell and would for 24 hours. I iced it right afterwards for a couple hours. Now it doesn't hurt at all, in fact it feels good to get the tension out. GL

it should help to "release" the knots. the soreness post foam roller should be different. typically my legs feel better, tired, but the aches and pains are gone. later.
