Got this Rudge Whitworth a couple of weeks ago.
Badly in need of a repaint.
So it's had a repaint and rebuild.
1930s and mostly original.
Here's the results:
Took it out for a ride + photos today and it only needs minor adjustments.
Is it cool, or what?

She looks great John!
Now you have gone set the bar high for my shed find.
I know, I know, pics
My only defense is that I've been busy riding

Isn't the Rudge cool?
I know it is....
Hey, shed finds are shed finds.
I've had plenty of donkeys, but the good ones pay for the rest.
Just show us what you get!
Don't be shy.

I think the inverted North Road's were popular on the single-speed club bikes and the bikes with the close-ratio 3-speed hubs. Then it probably got more popular because the club riders were doing it.
Not many of the club bikes made it over to the US, though Neal has managed to get quite a few together.

1947 Rudge this time.
Lots of people reversed the bars in those days.
At least in the UK.

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.

I agree.
But it was the original stem and since I will never ride it very much (being far too tall for this machine) I have just left it for the next owner to deal with.
It came originally with the inverted L shaped seat post, but I changed that for the one pictured because it allowed the saddle to be moved further back.
Otherwise my knees would be hitting the bars on the gentlest of turns
All bicycles are a compromise I guess!

Went out yesterday with two friends for a ride around Gloucester city.
One pic at a rest stop shows the convoy.
1980 Viscount, 1962(ish) Dawes Realmrider, and the star of the show, a 1930s Rudge Sports.
(The red Blumels pump does not fit the red Realmrider!
Be neat if it did)

Lanky Lass
East Hill heartily approves of the Rudge. She feels that even wearing trousers would not pose a problem for her, and the sight of the chainring would be well worth the risk of getting her skirt caught.
(Yes, I know the chainguard is really going to cover the chainring ).
Thanks for sharing, John!

East Hill, I knew you'd like it!
I only ride in trousers of course but often forget clips and so I got lots of jeans with ragged R/H hems.
This one has the best Rudge chain-wheel I've seen in a long time.
I'll fit a guard though when I discover what it should look like.
