It must be my connection then, since I still can't access it. At first I thought it could of been me using Firefox on my PS3, so I tried on my regular PC and I keep getting "Problem loading page" also. I guess since it's the end of the month, I must of ran out of my 10GB limit of Upload/download space.

I've also heard rumors that harris cyclery will be taking down all the sheldon brown pages which are not the direct online shop storefront and ordering pages. Too much wasted space and maintenance to fix all them, I guess.

Should Jon add the pages to Velobase?

Back when Sheldon was in good health, I had intended to contact him to suggest that he put his website on a CD. I would have been happy to pay $20 or $25 for the CD, to have all of his information and wisdom close at hand.
But, I never got around to it. I wonder if "Bike Forums" has a member who does business with Harris who might be able to get their consent for make and sell such CD's. Sheldon spent years building the most helpful website around, and it would be a shame for all of his hard work to be lost.

"I would think it is copyrighted, and doing so might trigger a lawsuit from harris cyclery/sheldon's estate?" QUOTE.

The worst that they could say is NO.

Mostly Mischief
This site, and man that was behind it, is an essential part of contemporary bicycle history. It would a great loss if no longer available.
Here's what I just did: On google I found a freeware program called BackStreet Browser 3.1, which enables you to download websites to your hard drive for permanent storage and offline browsing.
Using this app I then grabbed the entire sheldonbrown.com site, complete with html, links, images, graphics, whatnot. It is now sitting on my computer, and copied to an external drive just in case, safe from any action Harris Cyclery might take. Simply clicking on the appropriate icon in BackStreet opens the site in Firefox, whether online or not.
Surprisingly the site was just 17 MB, an amount of storage anybody should be able to spare in honor of a good man.
Good luck, Jan

Actually I was little hasty in concluding the size of the site. It is far greater than that, and will require several processes to download completely.

I think the CD idea is a good one, and a win win. Harris and Sheldon's family would realize income, and the info could be preserved.
The CD might help pay for the server space to keep the info on line as well.

Sheldon Brown can still kick all your a**es.
I'm sure his website is worth more than $30. There have been offers upwards into the thousands for his "eagle" mounted helmet alone.

On another note. I'm still unable to access his website. Can it have anything to do with me being in Europe??? This sucks!

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.

There is no way that Harris would take that site down. I read in one of Sheldon's obituaries that this site generates over 50% of Harris's sales.

Here's another program that says it copies sites: https://www.httrack.com/
I was just thinking the other day that I'd love to have his site in a book.

I'm sure a hyperlinked CD would sell very well. I, for one, would love to have the site as intranet pages at our local co-op.

I would think much of it would live on within archive.org even if it did go offline.

Keep in mind that most of the information and most of the pictures aren't copyrighted. Its just 'stuff' that was accumulated from manufacturers literature or 'common knowledge' that was accumulated.
