Correct, you sit a little more upright. I was coming from a 12 deg 100 mm on the 7.6 FX and did not want to be at 7. The extra length negates some of the height increase, but only slightly. The replacement is same paint as original TREK stem. In fact it matched the rest of the bike better.
My LBS ordered it for me from TREK, I think this is where they ordered it. It's actually in the MTN bike section.

As far as road bike with flat bar...some shades of gray there for comparison. I think the FX frames are more "relaxed", not sure what that means. Other than that, yes I would agree they are flat bar road bikes, which suits me perfectly.

I did not shift the shifters down. Both are equal size and I can read the indicators fine. You might be seeing some distortion in the camera angle.

Can't answer your question on the price delta for the 660's. I will say this. I know a few employees at the LBS were kind of blown away (in a good way) when they saw those shifters on a "hybrid".

LOL - I would definitely suggest going to LBS' and test riding this model - if they have it. otherwise, test ride a 7.6... this way, you can at least see how the bike feels, weighs, handles etc etc etc.

i took another 10 mile spin this past saturday morning. had an absolute blast. i just wish i had more places to ride it and a safe place to lock it up so i could ride it to work or something... =/ but i duno, i would never be able to ride manhattan streets with cabbies passing me at a foots distance, going by at 40-50mph....................... i dont know how others do it.... =X i stick to the trails...

saturday was nuts on the greenway too - strong winds heading south but even stronger winds heading north. i was to embarassed to check my avg speed but im sure it was at 10mph or below... LOL

Ha, I remember one time when I had headwinds going north and they shifted around as I headed back south. Discouraging to be sure. Marine forecast far more accurate for that MUT. I'm pretty good at seeing speed/direction by checking flags and pennants on the moored sailboats along the Hudson... I've seen 10+ when they say 4-5... you do know NYC weather is based on a monitoring station in the middle of CP (right behind Belvedere Castle)?

Week ago yesterday I did a 11 AM ride south w/sister, so it was relaxed and slow (about 10). Faster would have been nuts, way too many folks out. Leisurely is REALLY nice!

the white really looks awesome in person. the trek site made it look ok but i was surprised with how bright it is in person.

the downside is that it gets dirty really fast. i also have a white car and should have expected this but i didnt know how dirty it would get.. LOL.

so i wipe the bike down after rides. that way, nothing will get stuck onto the crisp new frame...

i feel that quality is something that, if you can afford, is absolutely worth it... seeing a bike of this caliber reminds me of a trip to starbucks over the summer... i was stepping out of starbucks with my coffee in hand when i saw a girl in jeans and a huge messenger bag (i dont think she was a messenger tho)... she was on what had to be a $2,000+ triathalon bike... i dont remember the brand but it looks like the trek triathalon frame... maybe it was a fuji - the frame shapes are similar... it looks like she was going to class or coming from class... what really shocked me was the bike plus the fact that she was in full jeans and sneakers on such a killer ride....

regardless, some may call it overkill but i dont think it's overkill if you can afford the quality. obviously the girl i saw could afford the bike and she is probably having an awesome time riding it around in nyc traffic... who knows.... maybe if my office building starts allowing bikes inside (instead of locking them up outside), maybe i'd get a triathalon bike to commute with.... LOLOL

I've been waiting on a few other parts to arrive before posting up any more pics. Overboard would be an apt description. (parts came in yesterday)

The new drivetrain is akin to standing on the overlook of a hyrdo-electric dam and sensing the constant hum of the turbines spinning deep below you. Handling remains predictable and precise. I love riding this bike.

Please note that I loved riding this bike prior to the addition of any upgrades. It's a damn fine machine right out of the box in my opinion.

Assuming you are referring to tires, doesn't it come stock with 28's? Aren't those what they call "aero" wheels?

Seeing what you are putting into this amazing ride, curious why you didn't start with a carbon frame a la 7.9?

Ah hah....I misunderstood regarding the tubes. No offense was taken I assure you. Yes, 28s are OE for this bike. The 32s have slightly less deflection at the same pressure and ride nice and smooth.

The wheels are an aero advertisement for Zipp....don't much care for all the stickers. The wheel design is touted to give the cyclist up to an additional 4 watts.

Good point on the frame. I prefer titanium or scandium (Kona Super Dew is hawt) over carbon. I'm really comfortable on the Trek frame now and it suits my purpose just fine.

I set the wrong macro thus most pics came out fuzzy. Light is gone and battery in camera is toast. I'll make another attempt later in the week.



ControlTech 350mm seat post and Thomson Elite X2 road stem were added yesterday. OE stem is +12 degree / 85mm. The Thomson is +10 degree / 90mm.
