Here’s my recently acquired triple set up (from essthreetee). Racing T RD with some form a aftermarket set up for the crank. Vague plans to put it on my Ciöcc frame. My also recently acquired VO compact crank to confirm my ongoing decline in hill climbing prowess.

I have one piece of Campagnolo equipment- a triple crankset- it's really pretty beat up, I think the chain rings look "cheap" and I don't think it's particularly high end. I was going to give it to someone- but they got too impatient, so it sits.
It isn't exactly a Campagnolo piece- but I have an Avocet triple that I think is pretty neat, and awfully pretty.

The first build on my Pinarello Gavia consisted of;

I put the drilled RINO rings on there- but even the drilled arms are cool. I think it's capable for 144-110-74 BCD rings.

Have a Gippiemme triple its like the Campag , triple , but the spider is thicker for blind bored mounting holes an 86 BCD so possible granny 28T
I built it as a wide double a 222 CX Campag chainguard instead of the outer 52 middle , 36 inner .. Its in storage for 20 yeats.. will sell

An Avocet is on my watch list, very elegant and obviously very well up to the task as they were a go to rando/brevet/touring crank for a long time by many very serious riders.

You are absolutely right, it is a "stretch" but actually still within the cage/angle rule as long as you don't go big-big. It was a compromise to keep it working when on the little ring up front and still work well/ok in all the middle gears. Did very well all the way around and won't stay that way.
I think I remember there are differences in Campagnolo pull ratios between speeds, so I don't know a cool looking 6 speed Campagnolo RD is replaceable for a shorter cage, or not quite as cool looking 8 speed...

The 1996 Campy catalog says it takes the same bottom bracket as the double, which I think was a 111 Campy taper. I generally have been using JIS 107s with them and that works for me, but 110 might be better. For the bike with the Nuovo Record and triplizer I had to use the longest spindle I could get, which was a symmetric 122.5.

I've been cautioned about the Avocet/Ofmega triples having a tendency to break around the pedal hole. I'm not a particularly strong rider, and this is on an errand/commuter bike- but I do look at it much more frequently than I have to.
On the other hand- after stripping the anodizing- even with the deep scratches on my example- this crank looks amazing when it's shined up!

Are there longer cage derailleurs that would allow you to have a longer chain?

If you wanted to stay Campy within a reasonable cost, you could convert a Nuovo Record using one of the Soma long cage kits. Polishing the cage so it matches the rest of the derailleur is a piece of cake.

First read the title and thought...Campy? 60’s Batman, Elvira and Rocky Horror..... then I realized I should be thinking about either a triple or a compact. 52t just doesn’t cut it anymore. I have never been a grinder. Anyone know if I can downsize my Superbe Prop lol?

Finding a 48 or 50 big ring and a 42 little ring for a 144 BCD crankdset shouldn’t be too difficult.
