Looks like the Santa Ana winds (which I usually hate), are blowing it farther west than my parent's place. Phew!

Good to hear, the winds are next level right now so any fires are really dangerous.

Stay safe out there. Meanwhile, we're going to get our first snow of the season, about 4-6" probably.

I don't have any snow shovels at the new house yet. I need to fix that tonight I think.

Also, for those following along with my work, my boss is getting moved into a technical role and they're finding a new supervisor. Not sure who it is. Kinda hope they don't ask me, because I'd probably say yes, but I'm not sure I really want to manage people yet. Someday probably, but right now I just want to keep working on my technical and project skills.

I'm pretty sure I banged up a few ribs karting Tuesday night. It's impossible to get up from a laying-down position without intense pain but I'm okay while remaining standing and sitting. Changing position isn't very good. Based on feedback from others it's bruised ribs or some damaged cartilage, but jeepers.

No cycling, lifting, etc for a bit. I can't even lay down to relax.

Windy ride today. Nice and clear since 2 of the fires in my area have been knocked down but we could see the huge smoke formation in the distance from the biggest one still raging.

Funny thing about the wind, a lot of little climbers end up on the wheel of the old guy, even on some of the smaller climbs. My friends got a new tandem and once they got that thing wound up they were a force in the wind.

Supposed to be 84 here tomorrow. Probably won't be a white Christmas.

Please tell me how bad diapers are again

how about when your kid is off at college and three get stabbed at the pizza place just off campus in college town, and it's hours before they might respond to communication on a Sunday :/

Yikes. Yeah, my daughter is a pain sometimes but I know exactly where she is (on my lap).

Hope you hear from your son shortly.

Shelly Verses. I haven't heard that name for a while. She grew up in the same town as my shop, her brother was one of the landlord's people (in charge of building maintenance - landlord owned a lot of properties in the area), I interviewed her for a high school project on cycling.

Her intro to pro cycling, as a 7-Eleven soigneur, is pretty funny. She had some humorous missteps.

I think she was the first female soigneur on a major team and got a lot of crap for it.

I just watched the documentary "Danica" and she had to deal with her share of stuff, death wishes, "Midol moment" comments, etc.

Her stories seemed a bit more funny (a reflection on the kind of person she is, I think), although I'm sure she got her share of flak. Like... normally mechanics room with the soigneurs during a grand tour, but the mechanics' wives protested so she always got her own room. She thought that was great.

At a team presentation (Giro?) she decided to sit on some signage on stage. It collapsed, on TV. This was the first year of 7-Eleven so it was sort a trial by fire, sort of a disaster punctuated by two? stage wins.

In Italy one of her jobs was to buy food, but she didn't know Italian. So she added "a" to everything to make it "Italian". She asked for stuff at a supermarket. Apparently "fig" with an "a" after is a naughty word in Italian. She was asking for "figs" and got kicked out of the store.

She used to help with motorpacing and such (I think at OTC, when she was working for them). When it was cold she'd open the back of the station wagon, crank the heat, and the team would ride behind the car. She'd take pictures with a cheap camera of the riders behind the car (one of the classic Campy Buick wagons).

I Googled a bit.

(Suburban picture, reference if/when the link dies)

I feel like I can finally share this. I bought this with the help of the guy that built my frame. I was searching for a fresher tow vehicle, failed around here to find one due to rust and my lower budget, decided to get one that has no rust on it (called "get one from Arizona"). Paid for it about 2 weeks ago, transport took a bit of time to arrange with Thanksgiving in the way, but it arrived today. I left it at the shop to get some stuff done (emissions for registration, snow tires, a general check over), I'll do a few more things, and then it'll be my new tow vehicle.

I allotted a certain amount of money to do this, meaning buying a local vehicle. I literally could not find one falling apart from rust. With the AZ Suburban I spent 5/7 of my budget with the vehicle shipping and a finder's fee, and the vehicle is about as fresh as fresh can be. The snow tires and other things are expected expenditures, and I'll need to get a few more things in the next year or so.

That's frustrating. Hopefully it turns around soon and one of those ends up great.
