Battaglin Marosticana Columbus SL
Hi Bike Experts;
Bought a near vintage, not a single scratch purple and gold Battaglin Marosticana with Columbus SL steel integrated cables and era Shimano Dura-Ace Groupo. Mavic wheels. Medici stem. Shimano Hp-7400 headset.
I'm not a Lakers fan and I'm thinking of sandblasting and powder coating. What do you think it' worth as is.
History; owner received it as gift from cyclist friend who raced it in the 80s, been sitting in a garage for decades.
Dura Ace hubs , 7 Per cassette
Bottom bracket reads Battaglin Marostica Italia
Dura Ace breaks
Dura Ace Integrated 8515 rear derailleur and font Dura Ace
Shimano Dura Ace 53 crank
No scratches. Only chrome chain stay has minor rust wear near BB.Not allowed to post URLs or pics yet

If it's as nice as you say, you'll half the value of the frame set by powder coating

I absolutely agree. Painting a vintage road bicycle in not always a great idea, in my opinion. Doing so will cost a bit and certainly negatively impact value. Best advice one could offer would be a refurbishment and then ride it for a while. You just might decide that original has its rewards.

Bicycle rides like the wind in flats but that tiny rear derailleur and index shifting make it a struggle up the hills. A.few more posts to unlock images

I can't wait to see some pics. Don't think of it as a Lakers bike but an Easter or Mardi Gras bike!

Looking forward to seeing the pics. Gearing problems can be fixed. Concur with the others that painting a vintage bike is usually a bad idea but not always.

Bottom bracket
The bottom bracket has Marostica Italia engraved and the number 55. Still can't post pictures.

The top tube has the braze-on flag emblem but the Italian colors were either painted over or fell out. There are little pantographed "riders" painted white all over - brake bridge, bb, shell, rear dropouts, fork crowns. Although again some are purple.

I suspect that's already been repainted. The decals don't look like any Battaglin I've seen.

I too think this Battaglin Marosticana was repainted. Take a look at the Bottom bracket photo, there is a trace of white paint below the cable guides.
any guesses as to the year? I'm thinking between 1984-1989.

It depends greatly on where you plan to sell this but....
Lose the aero bars
Put on a black or yellow saddle
If possible, swap out the Medici stem for something silver
List the bike for $800 and see what happens
List the Medici stem for $80 and see what happens
The decals look kind of lousy but the paint looks pretty good

I have a Battaglin from probably late 80s/early 90s. MAX tubes, sturdy and responsive as all hell. When I got it as a naked frame, it had a metallic medium blue to gold fade, with a lot of wear and chips. I had it stripped and repainted in red with white highlights in the pantographing.
That was 13 years ago, and I've ridden that bike a lot. I just did a refit this fall -

This is the first Battaglin I've seen in person. The geometry and weight are good. Responsive ride. It cost about $500 and I'd love to paint it as a project. I won't powder coat, I'm learning that, but this could look great with professional paint.

Nice bike !!
The 55 I believe is the frame size.
I would also remove the aero bars, and change the saddle to black. Would also change the bar tape to black or yellow
The paint looks good.. I would not repaint it.
But it is your bike. You make it what you want
Good Luck and ride safe
