Rockshox maintenance

Have way past 50 hours on a Recon RL Silver 130mm. It seems to work fine. How far can I push off maintenance? Or should I just get ‘er done.

I think 50 is pretty conservative. If you figure 13 three hour rides is 51 hours (EDIT: oops, that would be 17 rides) thats really not much, but it really sepends on the conditions.

If you afe worried about it, at least pull the damper out of the top and make sure the damper oil is still their and looks pretty clean.

Rock Shox forks are incredibly easy to work on. Beyond the standard hex keys all you need is some snap ring pliers and something to get the top caps off. I have a 24mm socket (I think... might be bigger) for the topcaps, but a big crescent wrench works if you are careful.

The lower leg service is actually one of the easiest things, and it's a good place to begin if you are wanting to get into doing your own suspension maintenance. RockShox puts their manuals online, and parts are readily available. The big items I try and keep up with are replacing the bath oil, and greasing of the seals.

One reason to get the job done is to prevent undue wear on the bushings that keep your fork stanchions centered in the legs. Worn bushings lead to small amounts of undesirable wobble.

Sram fork service looks to be well within my hydraulics repair background. Seems everywhere I look it ‘s 50-125 hours between services, and I’m ok with that. Time to get oil & parts kit on order and get on with it. Thanks Jonathan.
