Just picked up a Safari for a summer project. I'd love to find a complete set of those bags.....

Like this one I got today? Stuck seat post naturally, but I already have it out. Lights on this bike are crazy! Check the bottle below versus the 1972 article above. I believe it's original.
Only bike from that era that I have seen with bottle holder braze ons.

Sweet! Thanks for posting the photo!
Love seeing these road test bikes in color and out in the wild.

I really like my Kokusai that this Safari is based on, but I never thought about putting bags on it. The geometry is good for it though.
Great score!
The article mentions that this was an econo-tourer, but literally the only problem I've had with mine is the short-lived stainless spokes.
The article also shows that the Nishiki name had superceded the American Eagle branding in 1972. Before reading this I thought it was 1973.
So I think that both '72 and '73 Nishikis still carried the American Eagle name on the seat tube.

I just want to say that Safari is great model name for a touring bicycle. Thanks again for posting these old articles SpeedofLite... they're a hoot, and very informational.
