Huh. Just set a 1' PR. (finally bumped it up into my actual category on the e-wang chart.) Now, to figure out how to use it in a race....

Getting over this cold - first day back on the bike. Rode the heavy bike to work today at an easy pace. Felt fine during, but then kind of worse around lunch time. Back to feeling OK. Going to attempt a few hours of z2 tomorrow.

Great show at the Great Star Theater tonight.

Managed to sneak in a tad on the bike before work. Went to the nearest hill, went super hard 3 times, and rode to work. First time I've banged out a few intervals and finished a ride in under an hour!

Mountain biked with my brother and his friends today instead of a workout or my traditional openers number.

Felt the best I've ever felt on a mountain bike to be honest. Even though I was on a bike 2 sizes too big that I've only ridden a few times, I had a lot of fun.

Crit in the evening tomorrow. Need to make sure the bike is 100% in working order tomorrow.

Another perfect Saturday: A hot lap at Fiesta island followed by the 'Chilis" race ride, 2 hrs total with lots of intensity. Currently, eating, showering and packing the car for a mountain bike camping trip weekend at Mount Laguna. Woohoo!

Group ride with the boss of the old bike shop i used to work for. Rode with a bunch of triathletes on TT bikes. Luckily I trust anyone that gets allowed to go on this ride so it's fast and fun. One big thing I've noticed riding with triathletes (now and in the past) is that they make you hurt in the long term. They will ride a power that is slightly uncomfortable that gets hard after doing it for 1.5-2 hours. Where as road racers will make you hurt in the short term.

Also, my power meter died, so I've got to go estimate all my power values...

If your program has the option, I'd just go with hrTSS. Strava has its own guesstimated power too.

I borrowed some pursuit bars from a friend and put them on the track bike on Saturday and rode around the neighborhood a bit. I had always heard how difficult it was to ride in a tt position, but this was my first time riding in aerobars.

And I have to say, it was incredibly difficult to hold a straight line or turn. Things got better after more practice.

I didn't have any issues with my positioning, in fact I probably could have put the bars a bit lower, but my neck was not used to having to hold my head up that much to see forward.

tried using clip-on aerobars for the first time a couple days before the KSR TT - probably should've rode in the position more as my left leg started to get numb/weak towards the end. thinking about doing ToWC which has a similar length TT and may throw on a more negative/shorter stem and play with saddle position.. but i can definitely see the appeal of having a TT bike!

Found out the typical tuesday night training race is sanctioned tomorrow. So for today I just went out for an hour spin. Finally tied a (descending) KOM I've been trying for a while. Going to have to try one or two more times to beat it before I leave home.

Did the shop ride averaging a really slow 18 mph with a couple teammates tonight and then went out for beers. Hilariously, a mile or so out from the end I dropped it in the 53-11 and did a big gear spin up to 37 or so about 3 seconds before someone flatted. I couldn't figure how I got that far off the front but had teased a few others into the effort so just rolled it in.

Found out I had an influenza bug that kept coming back and I need to go get some antibiotics. The last few months of crappy health keeping me off the bike make a lot more sense now. Apparently I don't socialize with normal people enough to have heard this awful thing is going around.

Apparently there is some superbug or whatever you want to call it going around that takes you a couple rounds as it mutates into different symptoms. You think you're over it and just lagging and then it hits you again with something new. I didn't get the antibiotics part either, but drug resistant diseases are a thing now I guess. Regardless, five people I'd never met before accurately described the last two months right down to the holiday weekend spent nearly entirely in bed.

Well, the flu is a virus, so antibiotics would never work anyway.

That would explain why I was sick for 2-3 months with symptoms constantly evolving...

Yeah, they sooooort of worked I guess for some symptoms, but then I stayed sick for like another month afterwards and the symptoms changed to something else. So either I had one thing, beat it with meds, then caught something immediately after, or it was some sort of neverending superbug insanity.
