Greenville’s George Hincapie said Thursday that he isn’t ready to comment on reports he is leaving the Discovery Channel pro cycling team for T-Mobile.
The cycling Web site VeloNews.com reported Thursday that Hincapie is among a group of riders set to join the German team next season. The story stated that the deal with Hincapie, while not yet official, is part of T-Mobile’s efforts to raise its profile in the United States and Canada.
Hincapie, 34, recovering from a cold and preparing to race in the Tour of German starting today, declined to comment.
“Oh, boy,” he said,” when contacted by The Greenville News by phone on Thursday and told of the VeloNews report. “I’m not ready to comment. I’d love to, but I have to respect all parties involved. I want to do it when it’s OK for all parties.”
He added, “I should know something pretty soon.”
